Any news or pics on the renovation of salt lake stadium . What about the new and first ever football centric 40,000 capacity stadium in Bangaluru ? >_< Why it takes so long for good things to happen ?
Really wish IFA gets a pan state league going and stop these cosmetic changes to get max mileage from the derby....by taking football to the districts..they would surely be guaranteed crowds for all matches rather than only big 2 matches. Also it will spread the league and give more opportunities to players. 14 teams spread across 6 cities is certainly feasible & would also gaurantee a 6-7 months league and cup season with 30 plus matches. Surely its the big 3 who should push for it. It will have the added benifit of getting more mini stadia across the state slowly being improved if each club is allocated a " home stadium"....the need for alternative small football stadiums to YBK was sorely felt this year
@sam, @Deb_Ban: Here it is: In order to make the Kolkata Premier League more attractive and competitive, IFA is likely to introduce a new format in the forthcoming season. In the new format of the CFL the number of matches will be increased and as a result the participating teams will have to play more matches in the competition. At the initial stage the eleven participating teams will play against each other. The top four teams of the Premier League 1 will play in the 'Super Four' which will ultimately decide the Champion and runners up of the tournament. The remaining seven teams will play in the 'Relegation four', from which four teams will be relegated to the Premier Division 2. The points of the initial stages will be carried forward to the final stages in the 'Super four' as well as in the 'Relegation four'. It is expected that the two Kolkata giants, East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, will play twice against each other in the CFL in the proposed new format of the tournament. The new format is expected to be finalised in the next governing body meeting body of IFA. Source: kolkatafootball.com
As @deepakc suggested, these are all cosmetic changes, with no real initiative being shown to spread the popularity of the local league across the length and breadth of the state.
