@munna21977 Considering MB moves to Howrah Stadium (considered a MB stronghold), the ensuing politics will see to it that EB doesn't get to play in Rabindra Sarobar Stadium as RS stadium is a prime position within Kolkata.

If Goenka is being a wanker over this than fuck him. Atletico de Kolkata will most likely become nothing when Mohun Bagan and East Bengal come in and come on, he can't be that dumb? Howrah is right next to Kolkata so whatever fanbase that was hybrid MB and ATK will now just fully support Mohun Bagan. Why doesn't he just try to broker a way to get the two sides the merge, buy out Atletico Madrid's stake (or take them out of the namesake) and take advantage of a massive grey goose he has in Mohun Bagan, the oldest and most historic side in India!

I think he (Goenka) had tried that route. That would have been a win-win situation for all involved parties as well as for football in Bengal generally. But that is not to be. The present controllers of the club aren't ready to relinquish the hold on the club to any outsider. That is why they are continuously stonewalling all the corporate interests in the club all along (Arcelor-Mittal, Etihad, Lagardare, et al). They want the sponsorship money without letting go of the control. Corporates, predictably, want to see where their money is going. So, that route is virtually closed.MB management may strike a deal with shady entities like Red Chilies, who know very well how to operate in such murky waters. Otherwise expect the club operating with minimal or no sponsorship.

OFFICIAL: Dempo SC confirm withdrawal from I-League

The five-time champions bid adieu to the I-League

    Anselm Noronha

    07-Dec-2016 17:11:20

The Golden Eagles have eventually followed the suit of Salgaocar FC and Sporting Clube de Goa's exit from the current top tier of Indian football

Dempo Sports Club on Wednesday have formally announced their withdrawal from the oncoming I-League season 2016-17.

The Goan club's president has corresponded to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) General Secretary Kushal Das with regard to the decision to no longer be part of the competition.

The communication from Dempo to Das states as follows:

"Our decision at Dempo Sports Club on participating in the ensuing I-League (2016-17) has been carefully discussed and evaluated by the club management during the last few months.

Since the time we fielded a team in the Goa League fifty years back, our primary objective has been to contribute to the development of football in Goa and in India.

To that end, Dempo Sports Club has been the most successful football club in India in the last 15 years, having won the National Football League (NFL) and the I-League five times and all the major football tournaments in the country, besides contributing a substantial number of players to the Indian national team.

During the round table meeting held last May in New Delhi, the All India Football Federation had proposed the reorganization of the I-League and ISL. Subsequently, we have read various statements from the AIFF that the final road map on the reorganization is still in the process of being drawn up.

Considering the high cost of fielding and maintaining a team in the I-League and the uncertainty regarding the reorganization of the competition, the Promoters of the Dempo Group of Companies and the management of the club have decided that it will not be worthwhile to make the considerable additional investment required to field a team in the I-League. Therefore, with great regret, we wish to inform you that we will not field a team in the forthcoming I-League (2016-17).

However, mindful of our responsibilities towards football, not to say of our love for the game, we shall redouble our efforts and investments in the grassroots and youth development programmes to prepare the soccer stars of the future. We are glad to inform you that we are also launching a football academy from the next scholastic year onwards.

This decision does not, of course, preclude our option to re-enter the I-League or any new competition introduced by the AIFF/ I-League in coming times.

We harbour the certainty that you understand our point of view and the circumstances that have prompted our decision.

With many good wishes for success in steering Indian football to great heights."

As @Deb_Ban said Mr Goenka did put on the moves for Mohun Bagan (there is no smoke without a fire) but the internal politics between three (plus one) musketeers of MB scuppered the deal.

Mr Sanjib Gonenka &  Mr Tutu bose/Srinjay bose (Current Incumbent of MB) never stay on the same board bcz of rivalry.MB only want investor but they dont give up their stake & Management control & also present boss of MB have political affiliation(read as TMC).
As of now what I have heard from So called "Tent" ATK represent from kolkata,MB from Howrah & EB from Barasat(North 24 paragana). This may be possible bcz of one city one team rule as per ISL clause.
But one problem that remains persist of max 10 club clause with Star India in ISL.

Three officials from the Kolkata giants fined, EB secretary gets a caution
    15451296_1337083572977277_2101959823_n

Kolkata: The disciplinary committee of Indian Football Association (IFA) took strict action against East Bengal and Mohun Bagan officials on Saturday. Mohun Bagan officials Srinjoy Bose and Debasish Dutta were fined  1 lakh rupees each along with Debabrata Sarkar of East Bengal who was fined twenty five thousand rupees by the committee. The disciplinary committee also warned East Bengal secretary Kalyan Majumder regarding this matter but he won’t have to pay any fine. The committee also added that the club officials will have to pay the amount in between 1 month. The money will be used for Players Benevolent fund.

Mohun Bagan officials Srinjoy Bose, Debasish Dutta along with Kalyan Majumder and Debabrata Sarkar of East Bengal were show caused by the parent body for their remarks in the media following the decision of IFA to give three points to East Bengal. The Calcutta Football League derby was called off after a no-show from Mohun Bagan. East Bengal, who turned up for the match at the Kalyani Municipal Stadium were given walk over by referee Pranjal Banerjee. Mohun Bagan stood firm on their decision to not field a team.

The strange situation was a result of tussle between Mohun Bagan and the Indian Football Association, as both parties refused to budge.

Mohun Bagan had demanded a postponement because of “lack of practice” at the venue which is about 60kms from the city but IFA stuck to its original schedule.

With the walk-over, the red-and-gold brigade took an unassailable 24 points at the top of the 11-team table to be declared winners of the league for a record seventh successive time. Mohun Bagan remained on 16 points from eight matches.

The last time such an instance happened was in 1985, when the same team Mohun Bagan did not turn up.

The four of them must be laughing up their sleeves....also IFA and Players Benevolent fund..the combination is hilarious!
