Mohammedan Ready For ‘Final Push’ Against East Bengal

Mohammedan Sporting Club may be on their best run of form in recent months, but technical director Dipendu Biswas cautioned his players about getting complacent when they face East Bengal in their last Calcutta Premier Division ‘A’ fixture on Thursday at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krigangan, kick-off 3 pm.

Mohammedan (19 points) are currently top of the Calcutta Premier Division ‘A’ standings with a two-point advantage over the trailing Peerless, can win their first title since 1981 with victory against East Bengal, but only if Peerless slip in any of their remaining two matches against Rainbow AC and George Telegraph.

“We are ready for the final push,” comments Biswas about Thursday afternoon’s match against East Bengal. “This is our last match of the campaign, so there is no room for error. We are confident that we will continue where we left off on Monday.”

Mohammedan completed their preparation with a light pre-match training at Mohammedan Sporting Ground on a rainy Wednesday morning, and there is a sense of optimism in the camp which was visible while watching the Black Panthers going through their final polishing touches.

“It is good to see the players before such a big match so calm but highly focused. We have prepared with the limited time we have since our last game on Monday. I always tell the players to focus on the match but not on the league table. I am not doing any calculation; this is the last game so we have to get three points. We must focus on ourselves and the rest will take care of itself.” Biswas adds.

As for opponents, Biswas comments, “East Bengal is a formidable side. They play a very good brand of football and they are quick. It is going to be a nice match because they are also highly technical. I have nothing but respect for them. It is going to be a tight match but we will make sure that we implement our game plan and see how they respond. We are aware of the hype around the game and this is a big event for the fans. I have told players to go out there and express themselves without the fear of failure.”

After suffering a crushing 0-3 defeat against Bhawanipore, the Black Panthers came back strongly and registered three consecutive victories, all in must-win games, against BSS Sporting, Mohun Bagan and Peerless.

Going into the game, what will be key for Mohammedan is continuing that momentum and continuing to apply what they have learned thus far.

Part of their strength came from surprising their opponents with their speed, power and hunger. Biswas has prepared his troops well, identifying the key strengths of his personnel and setting up a system to maximize the team’s effectiveness. He never got carried away with any one victory, pointing out areas for improvements whilst highlighting the strengths of his team.

The former India striker knows what to expect from this exciting young side that will need to lift their game one more time to secure their first Calcutta Premier Division ‘A’ title after 38 years, with assistance from a stroke of luck.

First Ever Mohammedan SC Awards Nights Held At Orbit Ashwa

Orbit Group Kolkata and Mohammedan Sporting Club came together to celebrate Black Panthers’s 2019 Sikkim Governor’s Gold Cup triumph and to recognize and reward top performers at the first ever Mohammedan Sporting Club Annual Awards Night, held at the Orbit Ashwa, in Kolkata, on Saturday evening.

The guests gathered together to honour those who made significant contributions to the Black Panthers’ quest for the Calcutta Football League silverware in what was a challenging season and, even though the end result fell short of achieving glory for the club and supporters, it was imperative for the club to acknowledge and reward players’ hard work.

“It is important for the club to review and take note of some of the highlights of the season and show appreciation to all involved in continuing to contribute to the rich history of this institution. In assessing what has essentially been a season of transition, during which new coaching methods and playing combinations take a while to bed in, it was still necessary to recognize the effort and unrelenting commitment of the warriors who wore the Black and White jersey with pride and fought gallantly for the Mohammedan Sporting Club badge. Learning the key lessons is always important because they will help us to pave the path for success in the future,” said Mohammedan Sporting Assistant General Secretary Dr. Taha Ahmed.

Goalkeeper Priyant Singh was named the Official’s Player of the Season. In a poll conducted online, Vanlalbiaa Chhangte was named the Fans’ Player of the Year and Sovan Sen was named Emerging Player of the Year, while Tirthankar Sarkar’s goal against Mohun Bagan in the Calcutta Football League was voted the club’s Goal of the Season.

“It’s been a phenomenal season and I’m really proud of the team, the staff and those who have been working behind the scenes at this club.” said club President Mr. Mohammad Amiruddin.

Rock band Sufiana made for entertainment on a night when the Black Panthers celebrated their historical Sikkim Governor’s Gold Cup triumph.

How will they? The current management doesn't even have a vision for a season forget medium or long term. It has become a politico-family fiefdom.

Musa Mudde To Lead Black Panthers

Ugandan playmaker Musa Mudde will lead Black Panthers in the 2019/20 Hero 2nd Division League starting from Jnauray 25, 2019. Meanwhile goalkeeper Priyant Singh will be his deputy.

Having clinched the title in the 39th Sikkim Governor’s Gold Cup, the Saheed Ramon-coached side would be hoping for a positive start to their campaign when they face Bhawanipore FC in an away encounter on Saturday and eventually make it to the I-League.

“As we said at the end of Calcutta Football League, the rebuilding process for the 2nd Division League and beyond is aimed at ensuring that we restore this iconic institution to where it rightfully belongs – at the summit of Indian football.” said General Secretary Md. Qamaruddin.

“Our supporters have always carried the club and continue to do so. They demonstrated by filling up the stadium during Calcutta Football League. We hope to see more full stadiums this season.” he added.
