The legendary Indian striker, who has shared the dias with football great Diego Maradona in the past, says he was beyond thrilled at meeting one of his sporting heroes.
“I am one of the greatest fans of Sachin and I found him to be very humble and down to Earth. And it gave me a lot of pride when he asked me to walk him around the Stadium,” revealed Vijayan, to The New Indian Express.
Vijayan saluted Tendulkar for winning the bid for the Kochi franchise along with his partner Prasad Potluri of Hyderabad based firm PVP Ventures.
“I told him that he had done the right thing by choosing the Kochi team to which he replied that he was aware of the passion for football in the state,” elucidated Indian football Icon, who has scored 40 goals for the Indian national team and is third on the list of all-time scorers for the Blue Tigers, behind Sunil Chhetri and Bhaichung Bhutia.
Vijayan said that he had parlayed with Tendulkar on the possibility of opening a world class football academy in India. “He was positive and said that he was serious in improving the quality of football in the country.”
