So... anyone want a recently available Trinidad and Tobago international who has over four years experience in MLS and at the age of 27 could prove to be a pretty good player in the I-League as a defensive midfielder? Earned around $80,000 last season.
Speaking of guys just released, anyone also interested in a soon-to-be out of contract German center-back/defensive midfielder who has two years experience in the A-League, AFC Champions League experience, and experience in the 2nd and 3rd divisions of German football. He also has experience with the German youth set-up and is a youth product of Werder Bremen. Oh, and he is 27.
And that is why I believe if they were to come it would be to Pune or Benagluru FC... clubs who can possibly afford these players and provide other incentives. We have already seen guys like Cornell Glenn (to Shillong), John Johnson (to Bengaluru FC), and Riga Mustapha (to Pune) come to I-League so it is possible to convince guys to come to India.
Of course, Keon Daniel and Polenz would be taking it a step higher as both players are still in their primes, one is an international, and both will probably have offers from other MLS/A-League clubs as well as Thai, Mala clubs but if we want to be taken seriously in Asia then someone has to step up and I believe Bengaluru FC or Pune or anyone else could do it.
If you came to me in 2011 and told me we would have Cornell Glenn, John Johnson, or Riga in the I-League (on current, 2014, ages) I would have called you crazy and idiotic... now look.
Listen if one thing is done u wil see better foreigner will come than the mentioned name above...but it requires a bit of luk...if india win the bid for club wc all these player will be willing to leave mls thai mala a-league for india.
Ya, which is why Auckland City manage to sign all these great players... the Club World Cup won't do shit for I-League. We will play our one game and be done with it if we host.
