most coaches, new in india, have tried to use wingers in the full back position. my inference is that the indian junior coaches (TFA, SAI, schools, etc) do not equip full backs for their attacking play. if you see most full backs you will see that they may be ok in defense but not so good in attack. now the modern game requires full back who can attack well, in fact many consider full backs as attacking players. thus we have experiments like Boithang as full back. I think when papas came, Prabir das used to play as winger, but he shifted him too full back position. famously, we have nabi who started as striker, and played very well as a left winger, pushed back as a full back. similarly I have seen robert lalthalma both as a winger and a full back.
when a team is using 5 defenders, the full backs are supposed to support attack in a 3-5-2 (or 3-6-1/3-4-3) transition. I dont know what is in Herbert's mind, and I have seen only two games of NEUFC, but i dont see a problem if a winger is given full back's job. the players should be ready to take up these challenges.
all said, I don't see Herbert as India coach, neither I want anyone big and costly at this stage.

1st Trevor Morgan...who btw has gone from India NT coach contender to an Asst to the Asst coach at Kerela Blasters. ..partly due to poor team selection and also James and co don't rate his coaching abilities.
Ricky Herbert record both on & off the field in NZ isnt a glowing tribute from sources there. He got sacked for poor style of play...so how will he adapt to Kushal Das & Prafool Patels wishes for attractive football ? He like other ISL coaches have no clue about the issues in India...age cheating for one.... Ricky Herbert keeps going on and on aabout a young team...when most of his player's are at the fag end of their careers
These 2 are ideal for I-League teams and that's about it.
As for Marco winning ISL and then getting a mid table Serie a team.....it won't happen on Fantasy Championship Manager PC game...and certainly never going to happen in real life...
Whoever gets India coach job will get players in June 2015 after a short i-league season..so it will have to be someone who can work within these limitations
