Vashi: After its success in the Delhi-NCR region, Baichung Bhutia Football School has now aims at making a difference in Navi Mumbai.
Bhutia, the legendary footballer who has given us so many memories in the Asia Cup 2011 and his farewell match against Bayern Munich, has started this football club as a joint venture with Kishore Taid and Anurag Khilnani. Currently, the club has 18 centres across the country and is looking to expand its reach across India.
Head coach of the club in Navi Mumbai, Priyank Tiyagi, said, “We offer our students the best of training, which includes 1:1 ball to player ratio, 1:10 coach to player ratio. This training is provided by our highly trained coaches, who have an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) coaching licence. But most importantly, we give our students a platform to perform. We train students from different age groups — from under-8 to under-16 — to assure their all-round development from an early age.”
“We also send them for regular practice matches and then select them for various local tournaments like the Manchester United Premier Cup, the under-19 I-League and foreign tours,” he added.
When asked about India’s potential to make it big, considering the under-17 World Cup 2017 which India is hosting, Tyagi expressed, “India is in the right direction in this sport. We are the sleeping giants of Asia, our national team coach, Stephen Constantine, has been elected for the second time. Due to proper team selection along with more advanced technical training being implemented today, our youth is given a chance to prove their mettle at the national level.”
“However, our country needs to shine at the junior level and that is what our club exactly does. With members as young as four-and-a-half-year-old training with us, just imagine the bright future they have in football in out country.”
