Why do not India has such dual nationality agreements (like Pak) with a few countries? This will also ensure that its not easy for citizen of Pak, B'desh, Afghan etc. to get Indian citizenship.
@sam ; Countries will also look at their interests while signing dual nationality agreements. Countries with huge number of people like China, India and giving them dual nationality poses challenge to them. Having few thousand Norway dual nationals is different then million plus indian or chinese.
Other countries are more interested in signing deportation agreements with Indian government on illegal indians while Indian govt. focus is more visas for IT.
USA has more then 5 lakh illegal Indians including around 1 lakh in New York alone. Focus is on H-1B visa from India side and focus is on deportation of illegal Indians from USA side. dual nationality is not on anyone agenda.
Not plausible in present climate but one day in future. lets hope so.
It poses a security risk too. So many criminal businessman from india run away to foreign countries after committing financial fraud here. If they have dual nationality, it becomes impossible to arrest, prosecute extradite them.
Countries with dual nationality have proper extradition treaties signed up first. one commit crime in england or sweden, wanted in court in Canada, they are immidiately arrested by local police and extradited. Unless and until we make all such agreements, which will take decades, dual nationality will be difficult.
UK is a special case as whether you play for scotland, wales, England or northern Ireland, passport is of United Kingdom. When they say Great Britian, this also means Great Britain and Northern Ireland. But they enjoy separate FIFA memberships for England, wales, scotland, northern ireland. Connection needs to be shown whetehr you represent them in youth level or parents / grandparents in those regions to be eligible for them.
Similar thing can be seen in India Ranji Trophy. We got 3 cricket teams from Mumbai, Maharashtra and vidarbha (technically state is Maharashtra ) or Gujarat, Baroda, saurashtra teams in Ranji Trophy whereas state is Gujarat. Ranji is flexible, one can play for any team.
