As Lionel Messi turns 32, a fan ruminates on the ambivalent legacy of the football wizard
How can you be the most decorated player of your generation and also deal with the greatest despair? How can you be a mesmerising juggernaut at club level and a bewildering underachiever on the international stage? How can you be worshipped by a city foreign to you and yet be maligned by your own country? You can, if you are Lionel Messi — a tantalising composite of opposites.
The group seems to be quite silent with all the storm that is brewing in Indian Football. Everytime I visit expecting serious discussion taking place on this forum, I return dejected with barely any notification.
Bajaj has been arguing over third party interference and giving reference of FIFA clause 19. I think FSDL must have gone through this(if not then they are dumb) plus FIFA and AFC had warned us about this interference but it was related with court ruling. So IMO this particular point should not be bothersome especially when PP is working at AFC and FIFA and If FIFA has not said anything since 2014 then why would they object now?
If it goes to CAS then its another thing but clubs have never gone till that point so there must be some reason or may be lodging case with CAS isnt that simple
Former ATK defender Gerson Vieira joins Tanzanian champions Simba SC
The 26-year-old was one of the most important part of ATK's squad last season.
Former ATK defender Gerson Vieira has joined Tanzanian champions Simba SC. The 26-year old Brazilian was a mainstay at the Indian Super League side, as the two-time champions had a difficult season finishing sixth in the league table.
Simba SC are the current champions of the Tanzanian Premier League and are one of the two big clubs in the country alongside Young Africans. Managed by Belgian tactician, Patrick Aussems, the side holds the record of winning the second highest number of championships in Tanzania.
erson Vieira came up through the ranks of the Brazilian side, Gremio. He has featured for Brazilian clubs like Oeste, Red Bull Brasil and Atletico Tubarao. He then moved abroad and joined Uruguayan club Atenas before coming to the Indian subcontinent.
Vieira came to India for the first time to join Mumbai City FC back in 2016 for a short stint. But then he joined the Islanders again in a years time. The Islanders were guided to the playoffs by then head coach Alexandre Guimaraes and Gerson played a crucial role for the the Mumbai-outfit that season. He even scored in their 3-2 playoff defeat against ATK. However, he later joined the Kolkata side last season from Japanese second division side, Renofa Yamaguchi.
Despite being a mainstay at the ISL outfit last season, he had a decent season but far from what was expected out of him. He featured in all the league games for the two-time champions and made a whopping 89 clearances along with 23 interceptions. He is primarily a centre-back who is equally capable to play as a defensive midfielder. He played in both positions for the then head coach Steve Coppell and netted one goal along with an assist in a disappointing season, where they finished sixth in the league table.
Simba SC will definitely benefit from Gerson Vieira's daunting presence in defence or even in midfield. His versatility will be key for Patrick Aussems. The Lions will also participate in the CAF Champions League next season and Gerson Vieira will surely add more steel to their backline.
I congratulate @thebeautifulgame for doing the good work in the "Mohun Bagan News" thread (among other threads) and showing equal love and commitment and keeping the thread running, though well known for being a fan of their arch rivals.
This is true sportsmanship. And which is generally absent in the fandom of the Big Two who are content in meaningless mud-slinging to each other.
Its monsoon everything will be closed. All beaches will be empty and Most probably you ill have to carry umbrella and rain coats as it rains a lot there.
