    @sam ;

    Those were bunch of lies... that Japanese forces were with Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose (Azad Hind Sena) who were fighting for "Independence of India" & the Indian battalion was actually British force.

    You just painted picture wrong.... It was part of Indian freedom struggle, but since history was written by British & Bose haters, you will find story different.

    Similar stories you will find find in Andaman also; its written that people were fed up by Japanese ruler etc etc... But as per my knowledge it was ruled by Azad Hind Sena.

    Disclaimer : This is as per my knowledge. Which is based on some books ("Mahanayak" on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose & school history). If someone knows better & have documentation please share.

    In Andaman it was the Japanese who were ruling not INA, Japanese did mass genocide of the locals there, Bose visited Andaman and he was fooled by the Japanese officers into believing everything was well, from Japanese soldiers latter's you can find out they beheaded people with Katanas who they thought were British informant's.

    Indian Army was part of Allied Forces along with UK, USA, USSR and many other countries. All the Commonwealth countries were part of Allied Forces. It is true that we were not independent at that time. There was still a distinction between Indian Army and British Army.

    Many officers of Indian Army were British though.

    Azad Hind Fauj comprised of many Prisoner of War soldiers of Indian Army. Many civilian Indians from those colonies also joined it.
    Units of Indian Army posted in British colonies like Malaysia, Singapore, Burma surrendered when Japanese occupied those region - that formed the crux of INA.
    Axis forces needed a charismatic indian leader who can lead Indian POW soldiers to fight against Allied forces.
    Initial plan was to have him lead Indian Army in North Africa where General Rommel AfriKa Korps had captured large number of Indian soldiers near Tobruk. But Rommell lost and POWs were released. So Germany handed over Netaji to Japan to carry out the plan in Southeast Asia.

    Lets give some numbers

    Indian Army fighting on Allied side (British - American front)
    Number of soldiers 25 Lakh
    Dead    87000

    INA  Netaji Japan side   - 40 thousand (civilian plus soldiers)
