It is set up perfectly. India will manage a surprise victory over Syria and Uzbekistan, only needing a victory over Bangladesh or even a draw to qualify. Uzbekistan meanwhile have defeated Bangladesh and so did Syria so they sit at 3 points respectively. India barely did defeat Uzbekistan and Syria so second place qualification would not be so much of an option while Uzbekistan won 7-0 over Bangladesh and Syria won 4-1. Goal differences are thus, India +2, Uzbekistan +6, Syria +2.
Syria and Uzbekistan play each other first, Uzbekistan wins 3-1. India know that they are practically through as the group winners and sense the chance to play in the AFC U-23 Championship for the first time... we go into the game ready and strike early but Haokip hits the crossbar. Then, in a frantic moment in the 23rd minute, India concede via a direct free-kick which the keeper misreads and the Bangladesh player hits into the back of the net via his bloody back. Bangladesh know they can upset India now so they park-the-bus. Savio had no plan for this and eventually Bangladesh score again off the breakaway after India has to many men back. India lose 2-0.
1) Uzbekistan, 6 points, +8.
2) India, 6 points, +0.
3) Syria, 3 points, +0.
4) Bangladesh, 3 points, -8.
India fail to qualify as they enter in as the 6th best team... out of the 5 needed to qualify.
