Oman's football team will arrive in Bengaluru earlier than anyone expected for their World Cup qualifier against India. The decision comes after the All India Football Federation (AIFF) agreed to play gracious hosts as part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oman.
"Oman will arrive here three days prior to the World Cup qualifier while India will travel to Oman five days before the away clash. As part of the agreement, we will take care of their hotel stay and training. They will do the same when we travel to Oman," AIFF general secretary Kushal Das told TOI on Friday.
The AIFF will bear the visiting team's costs and also provide them with the same training facilities in a reciprocal agreement with Oman. The AIFF and Oman Football Association have both agreed to the terms and conditions. "But we are yet to sign the agreement," said Das.
Oman will use their extended stay in India to get acclimatized to the conditions and also train at the Sree Kanterava stadium. "Oman will train at the same stadium where India will also train forall three days. In Bengaluru, there is no alternative training ground," said Das.
India coach Stephen Constantine has only a week to shape his team up ahead of the crucial opener. The team assembles in Bengaluru on June 4.
