Salary cap should be there to avoid financial disparity among the clubs, later once the league been established it could be scrapped . However as of now it would be better had marquee player's wage be excluded from that as it enables the more financially sound franchise to sign some top player thereby galvanizing the brand value of isl.
Maybe in a couple of years the marquee players salary can be taken away from the actual salary but for now it should remain also to avoid stupid deals such as 11 crore for Del Piero. Of course, we could also have a maximum salary which could be offered to marquee players which I am not sure if that has been done yet.
Based on this article though, the trial and error period for the ISL is just beginning.
Also, off-topic, on the facebook post about this, someone commented "why salary cap gasp emoticon gasp emoticon if any european sees this he would be laughing like mad"... ya? Well who cares what the Europeans think. Some leagues and clubs would not mind a salary cap honestly other than the big clubs and it is not as if other sports don't do it... Premiership Rugby has one.
Kostas was listed to be retained by FC Pune City... along with guys like Jermaine Pennant but both have not been official confirmed as having been retained.
