Ans to Question 1. The rivalry mainly stems from a communal reason. The supporters of East Bengal are mainly the people having roots in Bangladesh and are called Bangals while the supporters of MB are those who have rooots in West Bengal and are called Ghotis
really sad to see that both clubs though one of the best only with the help of such a wonderfull following are not at all professional clubs and is affecting the complete structyre of our national league.....if there were no east bengal or mohun bagan, and instead if there was a kolkata united,our national league and also the national team wud be one of the best in asia or even in the world.....since, there exist a mb and eb, they are destroying the slimmy platform of other proffessionalised clubs using their huge fan bases and domination on total footballing in india....if there weren't rb or mb, and insted if there were complete professional kolkata united side, there wud deefinitely be a goa united, fc kochin, new delhi fc, bangalore fc, punjab united, along with shilling lajong, sikkim united, mumbai fc and pune fc.....but, since we are allowing these community based clubs like eb and mb who are only bothered abt rivalry between communities and for have even forgot about development of their own infrastructure, there exist other private or non-professional sides like dempo fc, prayag united, chirag united, salgaocar, etc along with few more like air india, ongc, and hal.....then, hw in the world can we attract the younger generation to football with htese kinds of clubs if they were expecting a good side representing their own city.....in the current structure, we have almost 8 teams from kolkata and goa alone.....are they the only football fans from indai.....??? don't we, the fans not from these regions deserves to cheer for our side to play against a better and professional side which has an identity to themselves....

if they are true football fans, they shud be turning up for each and every football game representing them, and if its besed on their city, it wud get more exciting.....if its totally based on just ethinicity and community, we can only expect the fans to turn out on derbies...!! is dat wat we want from them??? and, common yaar, am not talking about disbanding these historic clubs, they can still be part of kolkata premier league or even the newly forming premier soccer leage, but if we need to plan for a new big league, these two sides shud be ignored and this is not for their good, but for the good of each and every other city.....i will explain it a little more clear to u....am a keralite, and if there is a santhosh trophy going on, i will support kerala, if there is a cricket or ant other world cup is going on, i wud support india, and if suc a new league is going on, i wud support my home side kochi, but which team will i support in the current system....plz don't say chirag, they don't even care for our fans and is planning to shift their base to kolkata next year....taking the same case on a kolkata football fan, if a santhosh trophy is going on, he/ she can support west bengal, if its a world cup, he can support india, and if its kolkata premier league, he/she can support their respective historic club of either MB/EB or any other side......so, wats wrong in supporing different sides for different leagues or tournys??? and, just take a perfect example of the super cup final where two current champion sides locked horns....cud u spot these so called huge fan support there....?? the stadium was almost empty for this high profile game and also of a giant and historic club like eas bengal who are considered to the most fan following in india....where are they....or do they really need mohun bagan on the other side to turn up fot the match....??? so, that means, they only care about their community wen it comes to supporting eb an mb...they don't have any other emotions for any other sides nor the i-league....!! and thats the reason y i am askin of depromote them to state or city leagues....and instead, we can have a new looking kolkata football club in the national league, the sole representative from kolkata where we can have a huge following of true football loving fans of kolkata....and if still no fans turn out to cheer for this side in the national league, they can never term themselves as the true football crazy city.....and, anyways, the kolkata club will be of its high class standards with fully professional set up....so, y in the world shud they d=not turn up...if they have a huge following for kolkata knight riders in cricket, they can definitely cheer for kolkata united for the new grant league, and also they can cheer for their community clubs while its the kolkata premier league.....i guess, u are clear now.....!!and, for having huge fan following for the national team, we first need a wealthy professional national league only comprising of city based clubs and not ant community based clubs...!!! it can only make it more exciting...do u expect a east bengal vs fc kochin match to more exciting than a kolkata vs kochi match....??? may be u will think otherwise, but not the newly attracting young kids who will be wanting to follow this new looking league with new looking city based clubs.....trust me, they will have nothin, just nothin to do with these 50 year old histories and ethinicities in their mind but passion to beat their wealthy city rivals....!!!

no man i only said most of the fans of eb and mb come from kolkata. their jobs wouldnot allow them to travel to delhi plus financial situtation of majority of fans is also not that good that they can travel in airways
then, y shud our clubs only focus on just the middle-lower class community to cheer for their sides by playing in a rented and shared stadium, why wud they be lacking in complete professionaism in every management fields including merchandising and marketing.....?? why are they so much into star players who are not from kolkata but mostly from north east, south india and west...?? they, are in a phase of domination though financially weak...why wud we need a financially weaker(though not really weak), but showing hesitation on spenting much on their club.....??? and if they make big changes like adding star players with few other reputed players, increase the wages, improve the infrastructure, bring in some icon players to their side....ya, its definitely not possible if the league is the same as the prize awarded will also be the same...wat difference can the prize money bring in every changing season.....?? for last season it was $250k and now increased to $320k....really big amount which will definitely attract the corporates or club owners to invest more on their club.... <!-- s:whistle: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/eusa/whistle.gif" alt=":whistle:" title="Whistle" /><!-- s:whistle: -->
