problem is policing. just think about entrance of vybk during I league and Eden during ipl. better policing is the most important point along with cleaning of the stadium, renovation of stands.

@footydip you are absolutely correct mate. All of us have seen how Police forces stand and watch games in YBK and on slightest provocation they charge in to the stands with their lathis. Problem needs to be addressed at the root, banning supporters, banning clubs can never be a permanent solution.

Eden Garden matches are controlled by Kolkata Police.
Hope sarcasm wins something for some one..... King Bruce is trying desperately for a long time.

During ileague/derby matches in YBK, i feel one can even enter with small rocket launchers shown in american movies and go unnoticed, though costing wud a matter for fans

YBK Police force is activated only when they hear that refreshments have arrived for them. Otherwise they keenly follow the match. But if there is any disturbance in any stand, they are quick to jump in to show their power ruthlessly.

  • The biggest problem, I think in India is that its not a country which is pro sports. Any amount of logic to prove that sports in India is fast becoming a profession is utter rubbish. In any kind of physical sports, across the globe, u will see spectators get involved and there is rush of adrenalin with any slightest of provocation.Thats normal. But tell me any country where spectators on a sporting field are beaten up mercilessly by the police force, unlike in India. Because of lack of awareness and apathy towards sports in India by all concerned,(where sports is considered as a time pass), the govt. machineries beat up people ruthlessly, which is sheer shame. Forget football, I had been in Eden Gardens during one Indo-Pak Test match , where Salim Malik (who was fielding on the boundary lines) was booed by spectators (b'cos of misfielding and also since it was a tight match and it was evenly poised, and we had to win), so much so that police lathicharged and the game was completed with almost an empty stand! Remember, in a cricket match there is generally only one set of supporters(of that particular country; am not talking of IPL), unlike in Football where normally in India,Club football takes precedence over the NT and hence there are supporters of both clubs on the stadium and hence a volatile atmosphere.Tell me in which country players are not booed by the crowd???? But on how many occasions are they thrown out of the stadium? That shows the sporting culture of our country. Sports need to be seen as a profession, more of counselling has to be done (which is what both EB-MB does these days prior to a derby by appealing to spectators to maintain decency etc.)

Also there is belief amongst people that most..... I repeat most of the supporters of Mohun Bagan & EB are un-educated or less educated, jobless idiots who do not have any thing wothwhile to do. So it is very easy to blame the supporters of these 2 clubs especially. When these 2 clubs play Blood Presuure of the supporters go up......... not like ISL fans who passively sip  Coke even if the team whose shirt they are wearing is trailing. Thus these Club supporters can get provocated very easily and Police is there to pacify them and not to beat them up mercilessly. I still want an answer why.....debris are always handy ? If Stadium housekeeping can be done during ISL (I believe so though I have not seen any ISL match at any ground) then why it is not possible for other games ?

This incidents are common in football/Indian football. I remember last season Khalid jamil was seriously injured when BFC fans fired a glass bottle on his head after that without shame the uneducated crowd from the cheaper stands (as West block blues members clam) taunted Sergio Amoes with "Vada Pav" chants which angered the Native Karnataki which resulted in a attack on crowd. forget this just few weeks back angry Northeast united crowd bombarded the pitch with plastic bottles when they got threshed by Kerala which were carefully edited out by editors and sound engineers of star sports but I will agree that concrete pelting is a specialty of Bengali crowd no others fans do that in India.

@Soccerlover ; @AKB ; I agree with you. But the profile of Cricket supporter in India has changed over last 2 decades. As a child watching cricket matches on TV, I have seen lot of Cricket in 1990s. Barring Madras, crowd behaviour was very different at all other centers. Ahmedabad, Jamshedpur, Nagpur, Kanpur, Calcutta were amongst the worst. Almost every cricket match was interrupted due to stone throwing. I remember seeing an England player hit with metal arrow (Teer Kamaan) in Jamshedpur. There used to be pitch invasion when players like Tendulkar, Azharuddin, Kambli, Jadeja making a century. Fans put Holi colour, flower garland, giving 10 rupees note to these players and kissing them while they tried to save themselves between their admirers amongst police lathi charge. Then money in Cricket came, better stadiums, better facilities, higher ticket prices and same cricket fans now behave differently.
Same way if we have decent football infrastructure, like what eden gardens have in Calcutta and better environment for Football, these problems of violence will reduce.
