@red_devil i am sure 95 % of players who going to play in this year's ISL will know all of this players you mentioned Aaron Hughes,didier zokora ,riise or eidur . Atleast 50% of ppls who know these players also know these players playing in ISl india . If you ask marquee player how they end up in ISL,most of them say they heard good about it from former bignames . NEUFC coach end up in ISL after had a chat with simoa is just one example. Marquee to bring fans to stadium is just one thing you know about ISL marquee,there are lot of other things in it .There are so many players who excited to share a dressing room with this big players,taking this as a big opportunity to prove there skills, Its a very good platform for everybody . Also ISL get big spread. I don't think quality of game dragged down by marquee players, There is no mandatory to play Marquee in playing 11 . Manager will decide who going to play or who not , Blame manager not marquee rule for quality of play.
We need to blame marquee rule as well... However this year is ok as it says player should have a contract with a club at-least till Dec 2015...
Why do a club need to pay 5-10 CR just to keep the player on bench or to share a dressing room with players...It will increase the budget of the team... Indirectly it will affect scouting staff as they need to consider budget while scouting other 10 foreigners and at-times Clubs may need to sacrifice quality... This will directly or indirectly impact quality of play...
I don't think we are going to see any big marquees in the merged league. Hopefully we will follow the A-League Thai League model of scouting and signing effective players.
These marquees that ISL teams have hired have zero impact from a marketting point of view as well (apart from forlan)....In fact in Kolkata, guys like Javi Lara , Borja, Gavilan , Hume were more involved in promotional events than Postiga. How you promote your team depends on your media and marketing team and not "marquee" ! If you dont want to play your marquee, then its better not to waste money on them. You cant promote a game like football, simply by off field activities !
@Nagendra ; Dude just simple ,if you don't want marquee then go to i-league bro. ISL following some combinations ,calculations . We have to appreciate it ,instead of asking questions on there winning formula . Marquee players are mandatory for each team just like they need minimum no. of players in squad,like spending cap. Peoples just looking at small things , why not look at a big picture ,what ISL as become in india,atleast everybody enjoys the tournament and keep coming back ,saying nicer things about it .When teams start making profits , teams will get more younger marquee,after some years it won't be here .
@brainfallindia Merged league that not going to happen anytime soon. Don't even want to ,just run ISL with more clubs that's it. Its ok to bring i-league club to ISL but not in merger way . India should never follow other leagues ,they should follow their own way . We are indians bro ,if we follow others we fail ,that is why ISL is unique,reliance understands it.

According to ISL guidelines, all marquee players "must be contracted under a legally binding player contract by August 20, 2016 in order to assist with the marketing of the relevant club, the league and the HISL."
