Respect to teams (U 16, National Team, clubs) from all war-torn countries such as Yemen, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq for keeping the game of Football alive. Salute to the Spirit.
North Korea is a sporting nation. 54 medals in Olympics including 7 in 2016 Rio Olympics. They have a decent history in Football including 2 World Cup appearances. Communist countries have always given importance to Sports- erstwhile USSR used to top medal tally in Olympics. Cuba has done well too. China is a super power. If there was no investment, how will Cuba or North Korea win so many medals? Type and smartness of investment is also the key. In India, we show an army of retired cricketers, actors, businessman with invoices of investment of thousands of crores in IPL type leagues where one old unfit competes with other old unfit. In real events like Olympics or international football, they are all duds. In India, sports is run on hype, tax-breaks and marketing only-no concern for winning. Investment should reach the grassroots. Salary of Michael Chopra or a Chartered Private Jet for Abhishek Bachchan is not an investment.
In North Korea there is compulsion to practice sports and arts from young ages. Authorities tend to place more emphasis on sports related to national defense than merely for entertainment.
I know that it is their system and execution which makes it work for them in football and other sports ,but are they really investing much in sports ? Because it is hard to believe that they do . They even fail to provide basic things to their citizens and their economy is weak. I'm just curious to know how things work their .sports wise .
"In India, sports is run on hype, tax-breaks and marketing only-no concern for winning". Spot on !!
