Pretty underwhelming signing by East Bengal...Khalid Jamil has this tendency of signing players who have played in India and are adapted to Indian conditions...while such a concept might work for players like Amnah and Katsumi, I don't think any such advantage accrues from signing the likes of Plaza and Charles...even today Plaza missed many goals...East Bengal's forward line looks pretty weak
"Charles is the fifth foreigner who is signed by the Red & Gold Brigade for the forthcoming I-League. The Kolkata giant had already signed Mahmoud Al Amna, Willis Plaza, Carlyle Mitchell and Katsumi Yusa. Charles played for Chennai City FC last season in the I-League....East Bengal official Debabrata Sarker today said,” We have signed Charles as our fifth foreigner for the I-League. He will join the squad during the month of September. The management will take the decision on sixth foreigner later.”---So, Marcelo Espinal has not been formally signed? I would say that the club needs a genuine forward more than a defensive midfielder, certainly someone better than Plaza and Charles...Khalid Jamil, as reported in the media, has been thinking of Anthony Wolfe as Plaza's replacement...not sure if that is a good option, particularly considering his age
