The India U-13 Boys coaching camp kicked-off in Chandigarh today. Thirty-six boys, jointly coached by Traun Roy, Satheevan Balan and Surinder Singh will be attending the camp till May 14, 2011.
The boys have been selected on basis of their performance in the football festival conducted in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu earlier this month.
The twenty-two boys who would be selected at the completion of the camp will be heading for the AFC Football Festival to be held in Yazd City, Iran which kicks-off on May 10, 2011.
The boys have the luxury of practicing on two grounds – at the PEC University of Technology, Sector 12 and the Punjab University ground, Chandigarh.

A 22-member Indian squad for the U-13 AFC Cup Football Festival (South Asian Zone) to be held at Yazd City, Iran from May 18 to 28 has been selected after a month-long camp in Chandigarh. Besides India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are competing in the U-13 Festival.
Manager Satheevan Balan informed, “We will divide the squad into two teams so that everyone gets a chance to play. One team will play the first match while the remaining boys will play the next.”
“Results don’t matter at this stage. It’s important to give an opportunity to all to generate interest at this age,” he added.
The squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Sam Nornoha (Goa); Subrata Das (West Bengal).
Defenders: Fwiden Bargoyary (Assam); Vijay Kumar (Haryana); Shahbaaz, Konjenbham, Maniranjan Singh (both from Manipur); Vanlalruata, Jonathan Lalmuansanga (both from Mizoram); Krishanu Santra, Rabin Mahato, Babu Mondal (all from West Bengal)
Midfielders: Lazimali, Bento Neuton Joe (both from Kerala); Lalthansanga, Lalmuanzova, Lalrintluanga (both from Mizoram); Sandip Bhattacharjee, Rajesh Goswami (West Bengal).
Forwards: Heisham Sailesh Singh (Manipur), Lalremuata, (Mizoram), Firozuddin Molla, Basu Mukherjee (both from West Bengal)
