Rajasthan FC roll on to demolish Dempo at their Fatorda backyard

    lost to
Rajasthan FC 4 (Gerard Artigas 45’, Lucas Rodriguez Cabral 49’, Naoba Meetei 61’, Alain Oyarzun 86’)

A clinical Rajasthan FC looked more at home than hosts Dempo Sports Club as they notched up a commanding 4-0 win in an I-League 2024-25 match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Saturday, February 1, 2025.

Spanish striker Gerard Artigas opened the scoring in the first half before Uruguayan substitute Lucas Rodriguez Cabral, Naoba Meetei and Spanish Alain Oyarzun added to the tally in the second to help Rajasthan FC extend their unbeaten run to eight matches in the tournament.

Rajasthan’s turnaround has been truly dramatic. After being humiliated by Shillong Lajong FC 0-8 on December 8 last, the Jaipur-based side have remained unbeaten on eight consecutive matches and have taken home 16 points. Currently, they are fourth in the standings after playing 12 matches and level on points with third-placed Gokulam Kerala FC. Both at 19 points, though Rajasthan have played one game more.

"Football-wise, after analysing this team, I can tell you the are a very good team...They have very good players and it’s going to be a hard game... There is no chance of underestimating anyone, because at the end of the day, we didn't do anything. We have not become Real (Madrid) or Barcelona. I’ve always maintained that any team can beat the other (in the I-League)."

This was what Churchill coach Dimitris Dimitriou told about their opponents Sporting Club Bengaluru yesterday. And he was proved right as his team was held to a 1-1 draw by SC Bengaluru who are currently lying at the bottom of the table.

Churchill Brothers missed out on the chance to go to the top of the table; they are now behind leaders Namdhari FC (24 points from 12 games) with 23 points from 12 games.
