So what will be the point in having Arrows if none of the players want to sign.  :o

Why they want to retain this age frauds there are many good genuine age boys out there who are better talented. instead retaining this people AIFF should scout new boys from locations like goa,Kerala etc for the Arrows team.

  • It would be foolish if AIFF spends more on this group of players for the U-20 WC.. Instead they should be doing more scouting all over India so that the team is representative of all of India.. 9 players from Manipur does not mean they are best in their age group.. Just shows how poor the scouting is

  • @debarghya89: I agree with you. But considering so much has been already invested in these players, we cannot just throw them away. They have to be part of any fold, be it proper youth league in India, or any outside scouting or even retaining few of them in future plans. I always have a belief, no matter how much skills a person have, hard work, dedication and proper investing in good coaching can uplift any average individual to an exceptional professional player. Do not tell me that 100% of European players were all talented when they were in this age. Its just the education they received that has churned them into excellent professionals. There can be a few Messi or Ronaldo, but there are many good strikers around the world who does not have the same set of skills.

We should refrain from using the term "FIFA World Cup". It is "FIFA U-17 World Cup". There is a huge huge difference between the significance, magnitude and value of these two tournaments. Outside India, how many people are aware of U-17 world cup? How big is the TV Audience world wide for U-17 tournament?? Call it what it is.

Age Group tournaments are just one parameter-how sportsmen develop from junior to senior level is also very important. We got Boxers, Wrestlers, Hockey, tennis players who won world championship level tournemnts at Junior level- how did they fare at senior level?  At junior level, competition is only with those players who are of your same age or 1-2 years difference. At senior level, best players + or - 5-6 years of your age will compete with you. It becomes mix of youth and experience. Indian wrestler will win medal at U-18 tournament where all competitors are 17 or 18 years of age. Come to Olympics- one will face 20 25 30 years old best combined talent of last 10 or 15 U-18 tournaments and is out in the first Round itself. Same thing will happen in Football also. Unless we have atleast 5 or 6 batches of good U-17 teams year after year, we should not think that we have developed in Football.

Attendance is one of the biggest positives from this tournament. Good to see families, youngsters children attending the matches-good fan base for the future of the sport in India.

~3,400,000 is not bad at all for the U17 World Cup when you are comparing it to something like the Pro Kabaddi League. And the U17 World Cup was only ~200,000 off. Much to do about nothing.
