So what I suspected is correct. They are not going anywhere for pre season. Forget Spain/Turkey. Due to this they did not go to BD too. Lies after lies.

Quess already cleared their stand that they will leave the club at the end of this season....then why should they spend money..??

    No-show strains East Bengal-Quess ties

Their no-show meant Peerless has won the title, which would be made official after the Pujas

The tenuous relationship between East Bengal and its investor Quess has again come under stress after the club’s no-show at the Kalyani Stadium on Thursday.

The club team didn’t turn up for their CFL Premier Division Group A match against Calcutta Customs match which they needed to win by at least a seven-goal margin to regain the title.

Their no-show meant Peerless has won the title, which would be made official after the Pujas.

“We were completely in the dark. We had no knowledge about what was happening in Calcutta. It was a decision taken by the local officials. Quess has nothing to do with that,” Ajit Isaac, chairman & managing director, Quess Corp Limited, told The Telegraph on Friday afternoon.

Does that mean Quess’s relationship with East Bengal is under a cloud? “I do not want to say anything more. Quess Corp is a multi-million dollar company and we have a host of other things to do other than talking about East Bengal,” Isaac said.

Quess Corp signed a deal with East Bengal on July 5, 2018, following which a sports management joint venture was formed, Quess East Bengal Football Club Pvt Ltd.

East Bengal though stopped short of blaming Quess.

“The Indian Football Association (IFA) informed us about the rescheduled match late on October 1. Since the club is closed till October 15, we came to know about the mail late. We informed Sanjit Sen (Quess East Bengal chief executive officer) who told us that some players and coach were going on a short break. So it was not possible to play before October 21,” club official Debabrata Sarkar said.

Sen, when contacted, said East Bengal were ready to play the match.

“We were game but could not field a team because most of the players were unavailable. Coach’s (Alejandro Menendez Garcia) absence was not the issue. The problem was lack of players. Even with 11 players we could have travelled to Kalyani. But we had only five-six players. If we were not keen to play the match, the why did the coach practise even on October 1,” he said.

Relations between East Bengal, celebrating its centenary year, and Quess have never been good. While East Bengal has accused Quess of high-handedness, the Bangalore-based company has alleged that the club’s officials were “unprofessional” and suffered from insecurity issues.

Very unfortunate statement by Ajit Isaac IMO. Of course EB is not the sole concern of Quess Corp but as an investor he cannot simply wash his hands of the matter. Is he the same person who had declared a year ago that "we are investing in an institution and it has a lot of background and a lot of character and that is what we are buying into"?

Quess and it's people are no bodys. Will the general public remember Quess after 2020? Quess can go fuck themselves.

True, @munna. Very arrogant and irresponsible, bordering on the hubristic

  • If someone who has 70% stake in the business, is being lectured by petty beggars(read Nitu & Co.),it is but human nature that the person/organisation would hit back.

No one would object to Ajit Isaac if his statement was aimed at the EB officials who were hell-bent on making life miserable for Quess, nor was he responding to Nitu and Co but to reporters. He must remember that millions of supporters stood by him through thick and thin when Nitu, Kalyan and Co. were trying their best to meddle in the affairs of the club in the past year. Such a sweeping and dismissive statement is sure to strike the wrong chord with the supporters. EB and MB are icons in Indian football not because of the current corrupt officials who rule the roost nowadays but the legions of players and billions of supporters all around the globe. His statement tars everyone associated with the club with the same brush. If he had to hit back at the officials (which he is certainly entitled to do) he should have chosen better words to put his point across.Sure his company is a multi-million dollar one and he has 70% stake in the club, but he must remember that the association of Quess with EB also helped in the increase of the brand value of his company.

This is not a wholesale criticism of Quess. They did a commendable job last year by bringing in Alejandro and his support stuff and recruiting some very good foreigners. The gelling with the supporters was excellent. But this year some of the foreign recruits were not up to the mark and many of the Indian signings were pretty average. The failure to retain key players like Joby, Ralte,, Chullova also hurt the club. The decision not to play the match against Customs was regrettable. So if they leave at the end of the season, I would say that they would be leaving behind a mixed legacy at the club. It is indeed unfortunate that a partnership that seemed to herald a new dawn for EB and Maidan football would have to end this way.

  • EB seems to be better off with guys like Mehtab, Gurjinder, Khabra, Alvito who had screwed up the culture in change room, resorted to infighting - and all these happened when Monoranjan, Bhowmick (self proclaimed EB loyalists)were at the helm as Manager! Amongst many other, AM also changed that culture - but who cares! An investor won't invest on a high profile coach to win a local league - its as simple as that. And Bagan-EB are not process centric clubs; but these jokers don't understand that u can't win tournaments, sans process!

It is only in EB (Bagan doesn't have an investor, and am sure they won't be able to rope in one; else they would have had similar issues),that the officials who have done very little for the club who keeps talking big relentlessly.

With such narrow mindset & "I know all" attitude of club officials, many more such Quess' would come & go...till the time Kolkata football & the legacy clubs have gone into oblivion - courtsey the all knowing officials.
