  • That post started with a FIRST REACTION on Alvito. I just don't like BIG TALKING people who market themselves a hell lot but don't deliver, both Alvito and Sunil chetri are in that category as far as club football goes. Bhaichung towards the end of his career started doing this to prolong his career but in his younger days, Bhaichung was pretty humble. Sunil at least delivers for the national team, no coach even wants to give Alvito a chance to play for the national team.

The lesser I talk of Alvito, the better, so i started trying to analyse reasons as to why East Bengal is faring poorly in spite of having a pretty balanced team, hence the comment on Morgan's choice of players. Nothing against anyone specific, I believe both Indian and foreigners have their set of strengths and weaknesses, it all boils down to the personality and what/how he delivers.

I think you are a bit wrong on Chhetri. Last season he played 7 games and scored 7 goals. He can 100% dominate in the I-League but the problem this season is Odafa. Chhetri is an idiot for joining Mohun Bagan. He was never going to get good game time. Why he did it I will never know. He should have gone to say Prayag United, Pune FC or Shillong Lajong. He needs games.

I absolutely agree Arsenalfan. I mean there comes an opportunity in the life of a promising footballer to choose between money and the opportunity to become a legend. Sunil Chhetri could have joined Shillong Lajong FC and led them to glory, may be a top 3 finish all by himself. But he is no Bhutia unfortunately. Wish he had that sort of vision. Like Bhutia joined JCT and led them to glory. Rather he chose to settle for the money and hide out of the limelight.

These days its hard to tell whether you actually agree with me or not LOL but ya your right about Bhutia. He also had the option of joining East Bengal and staying with the India national team but he did the professional thing and retired internationally and went to United Sikkim FC and looks set to lead them to the I-League. If Bhutia stayed with India and East Bengal then for India we would not have great Jeje and Sunil partnership and for East Bengal Robin Singh probably would not be playing.

Sunil has lost his professional touch. Even yesterday against Mumbai FC. Where the fuck was he. He did not even make the 18 man squad. He probably would be the Indian top scorer had he joined Lajong, Pune or Prayag. Even on Facebook, what pictures is he putting up. What has he done to himself!

Is Sunil completely fit?? <!-- s:think: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/eusa/think.gif" alt="" title="Think" /><!-- s:think: --> The only inference for missing from playing eleven is that he is not completely fit. Or May be he is avoiding risk to play in AFC challenge cup by not featuring in less important matches. (MB V Mumbai, supposed to be easy for MB)

I still dont buy it. I know your a MB fan so you will defend him here but what about when he was fit. Lets face it, moving to a club where the forwards are either Ranty Martins or Odafa are committing career suicide. You are not getting the ball.
  • I was looking Sunil as Indian FW rather than MB player alone. I just saw he was suspended for last match, hence he didn't feature in last match(source : MB website). In the mean while I agree with playing time point but the fact that he would more competition and better coach and facilities might have prompted him for MB.

still. He should have seen Odafa there and said no. Plus its not like the coaching at Bagan WAS good when he signed. Now I am hoping United Sikkim FC get promoted and Sunil joins them

pune fc would have been the ideal one given that he would be pairing jeje in starting line up and also got good midfield to feed him, so he would have now scored around 14-16 goals which means his european dream was closer than the present situation where all those clubs who are scouting him are not able to see much of him

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE. I find arsenalfan very enthusiastic and a indefatigable follower of Indian football but some of his statements are outright erroneous which, from reading previous posts have been pointed out time and again.
In fact Odafa essayed Sunil gems of forward throughs and passes which he not only failed to capitalize on but made an absolute mess of it. In the recently concluded derby, Sunil had a far easier chance to score from than Odafa. Odafa was hounded by Mehtab first who he dodged aside, then Raju Gaekwad and Uga Okpara scissored in on him as Odafa pulled the trigger and THAT TOO FROM OUTSIDE THE BOX.
Sunil got a chance to score from exactly same angle a couple yards inside the box, ended up lobbing it into the hands of Gurpreet Sandhu. Less I talk about Sunil, the better. i have seen way too much of his non sense over the years, especially in the club scene.
