MC Mary Kom claimed a gold in the women's competition but Indian men were denied a complete sweep by traditional powerhouses Cuba and Uzbekistan on an exciting final day of the India Open boxing tournament, here on Thursday.
I will tell you guys if implemented well this Khelo India series will be the best thing happened in Indian Olympic sports.
I interacted to many parents and players they are so happy to see the international quality facilities given to them at the school level. They never got 10 % of current facilities in previous national games. All CWG infra's are used for the games. With media/fans/TV coverage giving these school kids international exposure and their coaches are kind of jealous of these kids as they never got same set up in their school days.
I covered WC as a media person and talking about media facilities and hospitality is 100 times better than FIFA U-17 World Cup and the way it organised it to make the functioning so smooth.
Now coming up to the planning of this series.
Heard that Government has given Rathor and team 600 crores INR to conduct the games. and what i am hearing that there going to be Khelo India college games, rural games and then rebranded Nationals games.
These games are just conducted in an Olympic style, only minus point is that there are no Olympic village type facilities for staying as they did not have time to build it.
PM Modi has announced that out of all athletes top 1500 kids and their coaches will be given 5 Lacs rupees per year till upcoming 8 years for their training.
Hope they will continue the same thing going ahead.
Top seed PV Sindhu remained in hunt to defend her title by reaching the women's singles semi-finals but Saina Nehwal, the other top home shuttler, was knocked out of the India Open, here on Friday.
Ace India shuttler PV Sindhu continued her glorious form and booked a place in the final of the India Open by beating Ratchanok Intanon in the semis on Saturday.
Sindhu tamed former World Champion Intanon of 21-13, 21- 15 to set up title clash with fifth seed Beiwen Zhangin at this BWF World Tour 500 event.
