Lakshya Sen stuns World No 1 to bag badminton gold in Asian Junior Championships
India’s rising badminton talent Lakshya Sen on Sunday created history as he went on to bag the gold medal in men’s singles competition at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2018 in Jakarta. The 16-year old defeated the top seed and the World No. 1 Kunlavut Vitidsarn in straight games 21-19, 21-18 to bag the top honour at the event.
The gold medal win is Sen’s biggest win in his career as the world number nine became the first Indian to win the medal at the competition in six years. He also became the first individual in 53 years to win the medal in men’s singles event. Sen, who was seeded sixth in the event, joins Gautam Thakkar and PV Sindhu to become the third shuttler to win the junior Asian championship. While Sindhu had won the tlte in 2012, Thakkar had won the gold medal all the way back in 1965.
Creating history, India jumped to the top rank from the fifth position of the compound archery women team category on Thursday.
The team, which comprises of V Jyothi Surekha, Trisha Deb, P Lily Chanu, Muskan Kirar, Divya Dhayal, and Madhumita, reached the top spot with 342.6 points leading Chinese Taipei team by six points.
Archery Association of India took to Twitter and congratulated the team for their achievement.

The Indian Archery team recently shocked Chinese Taipei in 2017 archery World Cup in Berlin when they defeated them to reach the final of the tournament.
Fifth-ranked India had ousted top-ranked Turkey 231-228, in the semifinals to make a second final this season, after the second stage in May.
At the Antalya leg of the World Cup, the Indian team consisting of Jyothi, Muskan and Divya Dhayal had lost to Chinese Taipei by three points.
India settled for a silver medal after losing by a heartbreaking one point, in the fourth and concluding stage of the Archery World Cup in Berlin.
The team comprising of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Muskan Kirar and Trisha Deb had a promising 59-57 lead but they slipped in the third end as the French trio eventually clinched the gold with a score of 229-228.
Five consecutive perfect 10s by Sophie Dodemont, Amelie Sancenot and Sandra Herve helped France level the scores 116-all in the second end.
Pressure then got the better of the Indian team as they started off the third end with a poor six and then an eight, while the French trio maintained the momentum to make it 174-169.
Indians tried their best in the fourth end and shot a solid 59/60 but as it turned out the five-point deficit was hard to overcome as the French trio emerged winners by one point
