  • HIL has stadiums with floodlights. almost every stadium except Lucknow. They have many other venues with proper stadiums and floodlights-they can expand to cities like Chandigarh, Bhopal, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai.
In Football we struggle to find a stadium with proper turf, stands, floodlights. Thats shame and yes-poor infrastructure is the biggest reason why indian League is a failure.
More then 1 year since they repaired Salt lake Stadium floodlights. They took like 4 years to repair Fatorda stadium floodlights-now what again stadium closed for renovation till November 2013.
Lights+Stadium= bring fans and proper time for TV Telecast.

  • Can they fix floodlights at Shillong Lajong Stadium? Lajong home game at 5 PM will give great TV viewership in North east if it is telecast live by TV channels.
They are showing very few games of Lajong on TV and that too on 2 PM. Thats why I-league sucks.

The irony of promotion/relegation. It burns doesn't it.

Well but it is for benefit of Meghalaya Football only. They have Ar Hima and Royal Wahingdoh. even if Lajong relegates, some other club will come. In those states, Football is more popular then Cricket. Atleast they should invest in infrastructure. Club can but government of Meghalaya should do it.

But thats the thing and that is what most people miss. Can we really rely on Ar-Hima, Royal Wahingdoh, and Lajong to actually spend money on renovating the stadium, having a professional internal set-up, having a professionally ran youth side/Academy etc.

That is another reason why I dont like this system. We complain about the bad infrastructure and lack of youth/Academies yet we still allow teams into the I-League regardless. That is not a good way to develop a league that is still, some could say, in a semi-pro/amateur age.

Look at Aizawl for example. If they get promoted will they be ready? Will they be ready to bare responsibility of the travel, signing players to stay up. Developing a fan base as well. And at the same time do they even have a proper stadium and youth set-up. No. Mizoram dont have an I-League ready stadium yet. In a few years they should but wait till then. And their youth set-up is still poor despite it existing.

That is why I am also worried about promoting clubs like Quartz or Delhi United. They dont even know what stadiums they would play in. They lack in youth (Quartz is based in Hyderabad) and probably no one knows them. They wont improve the league but sustain our already poor imagine.

They originate from Hyderabad and last I checked their Academy is based in Hyderabad still but they said they want to open one in Kerala.
