I have no idea why would anyone spend 1.1 millions dollars a week for a 32 year old Carlos Tevez!!! Insane salary which would put guys like Messi and Ronaldo to shame.
As China is a Communist country, PSU s take a big role. Shanghai SIPG FC is actually shanghai International Port Group - a PSU company which is 61% owned by Local Shanghai Government. Current China President Xi Jinping has pushed investment towards Football. They are already amongst top nations in the world as far as Olympic Sports are concerned and they have hosted Olympic Games on a grand scale. This is a new challenge for them. Their companies such as Government owned PSUs, Media, Real Estate, Giants like Alibaba, Entertainment like Wanda have all been investing. They are setting up 50 thousand Football Academies. Their different Government agencies are also investing in sports like Golf, Tennis, Race Circuits like Formula 1. We are witnessing a new China, not just satisfied with Olympic medals. European clubs are liking it - they have found a market to sell their players.
@debarghya89 it's most likely to be not there from next season.
@munna219777 There are mainly two reasons behind China's splurge to sports biz. 1. Sports, not just Football can provide more soft power diplomacy. China plans to use this soft power in its plan to wrest economic control from America and the West. 2. After a long time, the realty sector, which was one of the reasons behind China's rise as an economic superpower, is undergoing through stagnation. So, china has targeted sports biz as an alternative to keep up its growth
Yes China has been doing this for some time now. Earlier there investent focus was outside China like building Cricket Stadiums in West Indies or Football Stadiums in Africa. Now focus has shifted to home in China. http://abcnews.go.com/International/story?id=2980988&page=1
