Unknown. Currently Beckham has the investors but the stadium situation is far from even being complete. Until he can get a deal done to get a downtown Miami stadium Beckham will not have a team.
Currently MLS will expand this way: in 2015 we will see New York City FC and Orlando City FC come in. In 2017 we will have Atlanta and Los Angeles (2) join the league to make it a 22 team affair. After that we will expand by two more teams to make it 24 by around 2020-2022. Cities being looked at big time are Sacramento, Las Vegas, Miami, Minnesota, and Indianapolis. San Antonio is also in consideration.
The current NASL team, San Antonio Scorpions, are the leading candidate for a team in MLS. However, the owners do not have the money for MLS and the stadium they have is not big enough but it is expandable to 18,000 seats but who knows, once they do that money that capacity will be considered too low for MLS.
Why is Beckham adamant about building a new Downtown Stadium? They can lease SunLife Stadium in Miami gardens where so many American Football games have been organised. They also have FIU stadium. Once team is started, they can slowly build some stadium. Look at New England Revolutions. That team has always played at Foxboro or Gillette stadiums sharing it with NFL. Beckham group prime intention seems to be of getting a control of seafront property and using it for other purposes. Lobbyists from Royal Caribbean Cruise Company will not let that happen because they want that place to expand for Cruise industry.
I wish one day we get a team from New Mexico-Albuquerque-santa Fe Region. Huge Hispanic population as well as transplants/liberals from other states.
The New England Revolution is a shit example as their stadium is shit. Barely any fans show up for them. Beckham needs the downtown stadium as SunLife would be a rubbish venue for an MLS stadium. FIU Stadium is not even in Miami.
Keep in mind that Miami already had an MLS team and failed so things need to be perfect this time around.
