Mainly. Obviously guys like Kieta, Arata, Pal etc came later.
  • But hey, if you guys hate stability then follow MLS where a player can last up to 3 seasons with a team before being traded, released, transfered, or retire.

No. Not at all. It is really just for regular players. Thierry Henry for example is heading into his 3rd season and he will play in 2014 as well, making it his 4th. David Beckham stayed 5 seasons at LA.

It all stems down to MLS's salary rules. MLS teams need to remain below the salary cap and it is honestly, very hard. So one season you can have this great left-back but then you might need to trade him. Not because he was bad but because you need to make room in the cap.

For example. Last season the top scorer for the New York Red Bulls was Kenny Cooper who scored 18 goals in MLS play. However, after only 1 season in New York, he was traded to Dallas in exchange for money that can be used to pay players early (so to reduce there impact on the salary cap).

Its stupid but it has to be done. Red Bulls were at one point $500,000 over the cap this off-season. Sacrifices are needed and the normal players are bait. Marquee's like Henry and Beckham though dont move as often because there salaries do not count towards the salary cap.
