Here's AIFF Match Report
India were off to a winning start in the AFC Challenge Cup 2012, Qualifiers as they scored a facile 3-0 victory over Chinese Taipei in a Group B encounter played at the MPBJ Stadium, Kuala Lumpur here on Monday evening.
The game began on brisk note with Chinese Taipei initiating some good moves in the first fifteen minutes, but India was not to throw in the towel and once they had their noses in front, there was no looking back.
Jeje Lalpekhlua carried his great run of form and opened the scoring for the Bob Houghton-coached side in the 32nd minute. Steven Dias’s cross was neatly possessed by Sunil Chhetri, who headed it for Jeje to do the rest.
It was India, who dictated the terms in the first session and once again gave a better account of themselves to put their opponent on the back seat notching up two goals in the second half.
Sunil Chhetri making his debut as Captain combined once again with Jeje to double India’s accounts in the 76th minute before substitute Sheikh Jewel Raja who replaced Steven Dias, found the back the net from the top of the 18 yard box to seal the deal for the Indians scoring just two minutes from the end for a well deserved win.
India’s back-four as well as custodian, Subrata Pal too gave a better account of themselves and had a good day at the office.
Bob Houghton, chief coach of India was all smiles and said,’’ It was good game for us. Some young boys made their debut and fared pretty well. Jagpreet and Rakesh had a good game in the midfield and did very well,’’
‘’Chhetri too had a great game and playing his first game as captain scored a goal. He also paved the way for other goals,’’ he further added.
The Indian skipper was elated to lead the side and said,’’ I am very happy to be the Captain of the team and to win today is icing on the cake.’’
He was all praise for his colleagues and said,’’ Congratulations to the youngsters, who made their debut today and to Jeje and Jewel for scoring goals. I want myself and the team to keep on going in the same fashion.’’
Earlier in the day, Turkmenistan collected full points from their opening encounter trouncing Pakistan 3-0.
India will now take on arch rivals Pakistan on March 23, while Turkmenistan will lock their horns with Chinese Taipei.
Why no telecast of the AFC cup? The current president of AIFF, honourable Praful Patel can easily put a word with the IB minister regarding this &have some pity on us -Indian football fanatics.
who do you want to see in match 3
sabeeth is one and robin is secon player
give all uncapped players chances
But if we lose our ranking wnt improve much....lets go 4r 3 wins.....this is the challenging match...but I want to see jewel - baldeep combo followed by shilton in 2nd half...and want Raju bck....
We should test all our reserves against Turkmenistan tomorrow. We should not think negative that we will loose & should not be worried about the rankings too. If India can win with so many new faces, it can win, even if we rest the current playing XI
Comments
As we had mentioned, it was from another source...It was actually from Footballpakistan website..and now it looks like to be a rumor
Scorers - Jeje, Sunil, Jewel
