U-15 league remodeled to U-16 league for World Cup and then once WC is over will be remodeled to nothing. Looks like this tourney is running for the sake of WC U-17.
That is essentially what is happening. I would love if the AIFF started planning some sort of development league for 2018 or something in which teams have till 2017 to pass some sort of academy/youth team licensing requirement... same format but with better regulation.
We dont really need a u-15 or u19 league at this stage... all we need is a reserve league or development league where top division teams can send 1-2 teams(with 1 minimum) while 2nd div teams can have one team (not mandatory).. with the manadtory rule of having minimum of 5 U-19 players.. This would mean the teams like MB EB who have huge squad can keep their reserves match fit in B team and also give their youth players a chance in C team... while the teams like MFC, SLFC who run on slim budget can play B team comprising of reserves and u-19 players... B team for 2nd div cant be mandatory as you cant expect teams like Fateh who are new to have main and b team but a side like dempo and Mohd sporting can..
The advantage will be that many players will get playing time at national level at minimum cost for the clubs with major chance for their scouts to find a decent player... while players have a longer trial stint to show what they are made of...
5 U19 per each side should be enough for us to get an idea of youth players coming from each setup... Also this league will push the youth players further as they know unless they dont light this league up they are not getting into the first team
I like what you have for the most part but I have to disagree. Asia is moving into a new direction. China is spending big when it comes to players and are spending big on their youth development programs. Australia is finally starting to flex its muscle finally in regards to its league structure and youth development structure, Japan and South Korea will also improve and then you have Thailand which has been improving as the years go by or the Middle-Eastern countries. Asian football is a lot different to what it was 5 years ago. Dempo only lost 2-0 to a Qatari team a few years ago but now a days I doubt that happens. India needs to start looking at this and look long-term while having a focus as well on the short-term.
Obviously the major thing for them will be the ISL/I-League thing. Personally I want to see an expanded ISL but who knows what will happen with the AIFF.
In regards to the youth development though, I would rather see more focus on fixing the state leagues and encouraging clubs to play their reserves there. I am not a full fan of the reserve league concept but I love the idea of incorporating reserve teams into the league system. It is almost the perfect bridge between the youth teams and the senior team. You have your young guys, majority probably over-19 but not quite senior team level yet, playing against teams full of guys who are older, guys who are physically developed and who are at a decent ability compared to the randomness of a reserve league.
If we can somehow have clubs, whether I-League or ISL or whatever, to play their reserves in the state leagues and also work on making the state leagues stronger then we are already setting ourselves up for the future.
Meanwhile, we need a under-15 league desperately but I hate the way the AIFF have done it. We need a proper under-15 league with proper coaches and infrastructure. The under-15 league with these things would have better long-term affects than a reserve or under-20 league. These players have a lot more time to develop, learn the basics, and improve whereas the development is already almost done and with not as much room for growth in the under-20 league. You can actually make an impact with those guys.
I want to see this structure for top Indian football clubs soon:
- First-team (Whatever the first division is) - Reserve team (Respective State League) - Under-19 (Under-19 Development League) - Under-17/16 (Under-16 Development League) - Under-15/14 (Under-14 Development League)
These are extras I am totally sure on yet: - Under-12 - Under-10 - Under-8
@ArsenalFan700 i get what you are saying... but the problem had been that AIFF or IMG.. ISL Franchises or Ileague clubs.. nobody are thinking about long term plans... The best of clubs in either leagues are not showing the intent to spend from bottom to the up..
BFC who we brag about as the example of how clubs should be ran, dont have proper youth structure with quality staffs... the biggies fro kolkatta are too much involved in instant success.. while the current bottom teams like SLFC or salgaokar may have good setup but are stuck between allocating funds between league survival and improving youth setup thereby not getting quality staff at that stage..
The fact that our national team has to hire a club's facility for their national camp resulting the club getting a straight place in league shows the federation's lack of commitment towards infrastructure development..
When both federation and clubs are not looking convincing enough to work towards long term plan together, how can we expect them to put 4-5 teams are different leagues which are having good quality with competitive edge and invest on this plan..
We shall be lucky if we get the league structure you mentioned by mid-2020's given the confusion over the structure and the lack of promise from every section of football ecosystem of our country..
may be once thesse leagues are either merged or one get closed, we might get the clearer picture on what is possible structure we are looking at
Probably but I look at this as admitting defeat almost... as if we are just accepting that this is pretty much it. India won't develop this way footballing wise.
I have pretty much took a back-step regarding the idea of development in football until there is a clear idea on which is the main league.. currently what we are in is a pretty huge mess... unless it is cleared soonere, we cant get to see any development in a huge rate...

I-League’s Mumbai FC provide a perfect contrast to its glamorous ISL cousin
