    MPL Round 3: Electric Veng, Aizawl FC & FC Venghnuai register wins

    The round of games saw a lot of exciting games with some surprising results.

    Mizoram Police led the table after Round 3 of the Mizoram Premier League with six points, followed by Aizawl FC, Electric Veng FC and FC Venghnuai all on five points. Chanmari FC are on four points; Ramhlun North and Chhinga Veng FC on three points whereas Chawnpui FC are yet to open their account.


    Chhinga Veng FC and Chanmari FC play out to a draw

    Chhinga Veng FC and Chanmari FC played out to a 2-2 draw in a clash of former champions today at Lammual in the Mizoram Premier League.

    A goalless first half was followed up by an action packed second half in the first fixture of MPL8 after the Santosh Trophy qualifier break.

    A relatively quiet first half saw few chances created by both teams. Man of the match C. Lalchungnunga shone for Chhinga Veng FC while Lalrammuanpuia and Vanlalnghenga came close for Chanmari FC.

    The action after the break began with a bang when Lalrammuanpuia found the net for Chanmari FC two minutes into the second half. Chhinga Veng responded in kind in the 61st minute when substitute MC Malsawmzuala finished off his opportunity from inside the box.

    Chhinga Veng then won a penalty in the 72nd minute which was converted by MC Malsawmzuala for his second of the match. It looked like a win was coming for Chhinga Veng FC only for confusion in the CVFC backline went on to result in an own goal from Chhinga Veng FC defender Vanlalchhuanga.

    Chanmari FC will now face Aizawl FC on the evening of October 8 while Chhinga Veng FC will battle Electric Veng FC the next evening.


    Electric Veng FC seal three points

    Electric Veng FC overcame Chawnpui FC in convincing fashion as they sealed three valuable points with a 3-1 victory in the second fixture of the day in the Mizoram Premier League.

    An early goal from Vanlalremkima gave Electric Veng FC the early edge in a lively contest at Lammual. They soon doubled their advantage with a freekick from Ramhlunchhunga on the 25th minute.

    Chawnpui FC did not remain quiet despite being two goals down and they pulled one back on the 37th minute through a Lalnunmawia strike. Moody Lalawmpuia almost netted an equaliser before halftime only to be thwarted by the heroics of Electric Veng FC keeper Muansanga.

    The second half started brightly for Chawnpui FC but it was Electric Veng FC who came in control as the minutes went on. Electric Veng FC put the contest to bed on the 84th minute through David Lalchhuanawma who struck from the edge of the box.

    Chawnpui FC will now face newcomers FC Venghnuai on the afternoon of October 8 while Electric Veng FC entertain Chhinga Veng FC on Wednesday.


    Aizawl FC hand Police their first defeat

    Defending champions Aizawl FC earned their first victory of MPL8 as they rose to see off a valiant challenge from Mizoram Police in the Mizoram Premier League.

    A solitary goal right before halftime from Rochharzela proved to be the difference between the two sides with a 1-0 win for Aizawl FC in a match where the Police team will feel they deserved to go home with more.

    F. Lalrinpuia and Lalramtharmawia spurned half chances for Mizoram Police in the first period which was defined mostly Aizawl FC’s control in midfield. The champions themselves created a few openings as the lively Rochharzela looked a threat to the opposition backline.

    And it was Rochharzela who struck in stoppage time after a clever movement inside the box ended with a finely executed finish.

    The second half saw Mizoram Police come close a couple of times as they searched in vain for an equaliser. Lalfakzuala headed just wide while substitute Malsawmfela was denied only by the heroics of Aizawl FC custodian Lalawmpuia.

    Aizawl FC, content with on their lead, had looked happy to sit and hit on the break but Isak Vanlalruatfela almost doubled their tally late on until he was denied by Police keeper Muanawma.

    Aizawl FC will now face Chanmari FC on the evening of October 8 while Mizoram Police entertain Ramhlun North FC the next day.


    FC Venghnuai seal their first win

    Newcomers FC Venghnuai earned their first three points in MPL 8 as they defeated Ramhlun North FC with a solitary goal in the final fixture of Round 3 in the Mizoram Premier League.

    A relatively quiet first half saw Ramhlun North threaten with Biakhluzuala being denied by FC Venghnuai goalkeeper Lallawmzuala. At the other end, experienced campaigned Laldampuia headed onto the post for Venghnuai FC.

    The deadlock was broken early in the second half when Lalruatfela nodded in a left footed delivery from Vanlalthanga from a set piece. FC Venghnuai managed to hold onto their lead till the final whistle despite going down to 10 men after Thangzawmsanga was given his marching orders in the 68th minute.

    FC Venghnuai will square with Chawnpui FC on the afternoon of October 8 while Ramhlun North FC will face Mizoram Police the next day.
