Maybe they realized that the North-East of India is not really a "mecca" for Indian football. Seriously, the North-East is so overrated. All they have is support, amazing support, probably the best in India but in terms of development and senior football tournaments they are no where near the likes of Goa, Kolkata, and even Maharashtra and Punjab.

Evidence can be seen through the Durand Cup where the best from Nagaland and Mizoram (where they have "professional" leagues) failed to even compete with the likes of Bihar.

The North-East of India is a god send for Indian football. A place where football comes #1 in a group of states. A place where teams in Shillong, Sikkim, Assam, and Mizoram could thrive in but in terms of development they have a long ways to go and the AIFF need to help them get to that. Nagaland for example play in dirt only. At least in places like Maharashtra it is a mix of dirt and grass, in Nagaland it is dirt and clay. Same in Sikkim where they only really have 1 proper field.

If we ever do decide to start spending money on specific area's of India I hope it is the North-East. The potential is there but they are not there yet.

well durand cup is for clubs only. Nagaland and Mizoram do not participate there. services (Army XI) Team and all other clubs play there.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durand_Cup

that other tournament is Santosh Trophy where different states participate. But then I-league players are not allowed in Santosh Trophy.
real Mizoram team with these players will do better in Santosh Trophy.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Footballers_from_Mizoram

Good stadiums are coming up there. lets see - but now we have only one team in I-league shillong Lajong and ten action barely showed 1 or 2 games from Shillong on TV.
