Beijing: China will not bid for the 2015-2016 or 2017-2018 FIFA Club World Cup since the Chinese Football Association (CFA) did not receive application from any of the local associations.
Guangzhou had shown interest in bidding with the support of Evergrande Group which owns the AFC Champions League team Guangzhou Evergrande, but finally decided to quit, reports Xinhua.
CFA official Qi Jun said that as the deadline for submitting applications expired Tuesday, the governing body for the sport in China didn`t get a single application from any of its local associations. The deadline for CFA to submit a bid to FIFA is March 30.
World football governing body FIFA told a press conference on Thursday that they will decide the hosts for club World Cup from 2015 to 2018 in late September 2014.
Jerome Valcke, secretary general of FIFA, said: "We will open the bid process to 209 member associations by February 2014 and the decision could be made in late September 2014. It could go back to Japan in 2015 and 2016 because we have an agreement. There is some interest by China as well as some other countries. We will appoint four editions from 2015-2018 in September 2014."
FIFA President Sepp Blatter said Asian football has developed in recently years and Janpan's J league and South Korea's K league are good ones and Australia's inclusion into AFC is an enrichment for Asian football.
Goal-line technology and vanishing spray for free kicks have been used in club World Cup. Blatter said all referees are pleased with them. "It's novelty. we will use them in the World Cup in Brazil next year."
"Bayern Munich's representatives said here they can take free kicks with the wall nine metres away, while at home it's only five," said Blatter.
But Marcello Lippi, head coach of Guangzhou Evergrande, said in the post-match press conference after a 3-0 semifinal defeat to Bayern that the referee had not measured the distance correctly. " The wall was 15 meters from the ball."
Blatter also expressed his disappointment with European media's indifference to club World Cup. "I could understand that when we played this competition in the past years in Japan or the United Arab Emirates, there was less interest," said Blatter. " But now it is on Europe's doorstep and there is still not so much interest, we are disappointed."
Blatter said a busy competition schedule was the main reason. " They have to play every day, even if they don't play in the league, there is FA Cup and League Cup."
Blatter hoped to include club World Cup in the international calendar to avoid the clash between club World Cup and European football competition.
Host team Raja Casablanca surprised all to beat New Zealand's Auckland City, Mexico's Monterrey and Brazil's Atletico Mineiro to reach the final against Bayern on Saturday.
"Brazilian team play samba football and Raja play their way. They won deservingly. They are better team on the pitch on the day. We will see in the final." Blatter said. "Bayern will play their second match in the final while Raja will play their fourth since they played from the qualification round." Endi
I don't understand. Japan has already hosted six FIFA club world cups. Now they are saying it will go back to Japan once again. FIFA should give India a chance to host such presitigious event. Is this something to do with rich sponsors? FIFA needs to do some explanation.
