The AIFF is in no mood to reschedule its Indian football commitments as new season of I-League will go ahead as originally planned...
In a sudden development that has the football fraternity scratching their heads, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has released their calendar, detailing all football activities for the 2014-15 season.
Around ten days ago in a meeting held in Bangalore, IMG-Reliance and STAR requested the AIFF to be allotted more time to complete the inaugural season of the Indian Super League (ISL). With cricket’s Champions League Twenty20 expected to kick-off on September 8 until the end of the month, the broadcasters have pleased to the Indian FA to change the calendar so as to accommodate the delay in the ISL.
The move to release calendar immediately after Star’s request made public is seen as a ploy to suggest that the AIFF wouldn’t budge and alter the calendar.
According to the calendar, the I-League is scheduled to kick-off come the 3rd of January 2015, whilst the Federation Cup is expected to be conducted from the 10th to the 28th of December 2014.
The zonal rounds of the Santosh Trophy now in its 69th year, will be conducted from 20th January and final round of the nationals will be from the 20th February to March 10th.
The Under-19 I-League shall begin in October. The second tier of the I-League is expected to kickoff come November 20th.
BC Roy Trophy and the Coca-Cola Cup, which are junior talent based tournaments, will be hosted in January while the women’s nationals will occur in the same month as well.
Balwant Singh, who had a brilliant 2013-14 season with Churchill Brothers, is likely to join Mohun Bagan. According to sources, Balwant has secured his release from the Goa team and a deal with the green and maroons should be finalized soon. Quite a few clubs were interested in roping him, but it seems Mohun Bagan have emerged as the frontrunners.
Bagan may miss out on Nordy:
The chances of Haiti-born attacking midfielder Sony Nordy joining Mohun Bagan next season looked bright a few months ago. It was learnt that some progress had been made in negotiations, too. But with some media reports indicating that the Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi player may join Belgium club KV Oostende, Mohun Bagan's hopes of roping in the striker who made a big impression during the IFA Shield earlier this year is fading. If Nordy does opt to play in the Belgian Pro League, Bagan will have to find their fourth foreigner.
