We should look beyond Trinidad & Tobago 2006 WC Team. We have seen atleast 5-6 players from that squad so far in I-League and they have not done that well. Random Nigerian is not that bad as compared to Trinidad players.

I meant that the rule should be such that these random WC players cannot be considered as marquee. There is no point of making a rule if clubs gonna find loop holes in the rule.

Ya, that World Cup was eight years ago and Trinidad and Tobago were rubbish. They could not even score a goal during the three matches they played.

Rumors are that marquee rules will be something like this :
1) Played Top legaue of European countries... ( not sure if AIFF will use UEFA rankings or if we will see guys like my friend Aman Verma sneak in because he played top tier in Malta ! )
2 ) played in major international tournament .eg World Cup, European Championship, Copa America , AFC etc. ( will African Cup of Nations count ??? If so Johnny Menyongar will be classed a marquee player )
3) AIFF discretion on others...so expect special favours for guys who take IMG-R "marquee" player's

So... if I have a player who played in the Brazilian top tier and who never played for Brazil and he is willing to come then he would still not count as a marquee unless the AIFF say so?

Also, what is the point of this rule? Why is it here? All I see it doing is replacing a foreigner spot on a marquee spot which barely half the teams can actually afford.

Brandon Fernandes should join an Indian club to gain some playing minutes while also looking for a European club. I-League is better than the 3rd Division of South Africa surely and the hype he would get here would surely propel him up to some coaches.

BTW, if he is willing, I do have contacts with a few lower division coaches in American soccer and am friends with Jeff Cassar (Real Salt Lake head coach) through youth camps in the past. I have not talked to Cassar since February and I doubt he would still take player suggestions from me but I am sure he would be willing to at least listen to the idea.

I also have some contacts with the GMs and FOs of a few MLS teams and the prospect of an Indian player who can actually make it could turn a few heads.
