We need to play these qualifiers. We don't play these then what is the point of all this? India has a realistic chance of finishing 3rd in their group... maybe even 2nd if things go our way. Why should we miss this chance? This is a chance to show people that India is actually serious when it comes to football since the Asian Cup... this is a chance to begin something and I know I have said that a lot... when we finished the Asian Cup, when we signed Wim etc but I am serious this time. With the ISL and India being in a decent pot we have a chance to show something.
Also, IMG-Reliance would eat this shit up if India does well which means more investment!
It was already confirmed that there would not be friendlies but I am hoping that the ISL training from August/September will help maintain the fitness levels of the players and also playing with higher level players could help.
It is not much and not the same as playing friendlies as an international team but it is better than nothing.
@Leedson Where is time? There will be lot of I-League games in may. Infact I-League may even be extended into 1st week of June if any more hindrance occurs.
India all world cup qualifiers to be held at Delhi's Ambedkar Stadium as all other major venues across the country will be busy playing host to Indian Super League (ISL) ties from September.
In all probability, we will host the matches at the Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi," said Kushal Das, the general secretary of the All India Football Federation (AIFF). "In October, Ambedkar stadium has been booked by the Subroto Cup organisers, but we are having a talk with them for a possible solution," he added.
"The AIFF is finding it hard to get a proper venue for the national team's matches because of the 90-day window for the ISL," said a source. "All venues of international standard in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Goa, Pune, Chennai and Guwahati will remain booked for the ISL, starting in September," he added.
