@bida 25 Say what you want, without us, he will be warming the benches of some I-League club right now and thats a fact. As I said before, his errors cost us heavily in the AFC Cup and I-League and I sincerely hope he develops at Norway and becomes an asset for the national team.
how often do you see a 6 foot 5 goalkeeper with age on his side warm the benches but i am sure that playing in Norway has nothing to do with for playing in EB but yah he was given a break. He is a talent spotted by Burridge who helped him to move abroad. Sorry mate EB has nothing to do with his development they just needed good backup keeper. If he would have developed by now could have been seen him in top european club.
East Bengal were his first team, they obviously had a role in his career. If not for starting at East Bengal he would not have joined the India U23 side and without that he would not have been praised and gone over to Norway. FACT!
Calcutta pressure for goalkeeper is different. One mistake in Derby and you are crucified. Therefore for clubs like East Bengal, they need goalkeepers who can handle Derby pressure well. for Europe, physique, height is the first basic thing so Sandhu made a mark there in Europe.
Burridge got impressed when he saw Gurpreet playing in the sold out Calcutta derby at 19 I guess. No one doubts Gurpreet's potential and I hope he becomes the number one goalie for India soon but those 3 seasons with EB has helped him more than you would think. Learning to handle pressure, crowd pressure each and every home match, AFC Cup semis, sorry but wont happen outside the big two in Calcutta. Again a FACT! You are free to opine differently ofcouse, but hey, we all want this guy to make it big in club football and in the national team jersey.
