@souravindia ;  From Aligarh Muslim University. Both Majid Bishkar and Jamshed Nassiri were Foreign Students at AMU. There was a Calcutta guy who was Student Union President at AMU. So he brought the duo to Maidan for talks with various clubs.
Chima Okerie was student of B.Architecture at Vishakapatnam. He came to India in 1984. After his exploits at Vishaka Trophy, Md Sporting picked him up.

Those who came through the university route: Majid Baskar, Jamshid Nassiri, Mahmood Khabazi, Md Sanjari(?) (all Iran),  Chima Okerie, David Williams (All Nigeria) and some others.

Back then, the academy system was not there, but scouting network was very strong. The lower division clubs, the suburban clubs, the rural clubs were different levels of suppliers of players. Post- emergence of cricket (1983 was a watershed year in Indian football), football base in Bengal gradually weakened and the clubs started to look to the NE and other states for promising footballers. Quality improved, but source changed.

To continue on MB's problems being discussed in other threads.

@AKB, re-marriage is not possible without prior divorce, true. And a club like MB cannot go sponsorless for the second year running is also right. Fact is: MB management is continually harping on getting a new sponsor 'soon' since November. What's preventing them to sign one? As I see, willing sponsors are around, and they will take the plunge only when it is legally OK.

And legally it is not OK. Since, the crooks in-charges of MB have given 50% OWNERSHIP of the club to UB in stead of title sponsorship. So until they throw UB out of MMB, new 'sponsors' would not come in. And they cannot chuck the lawful owners, whether they pay the yearly money or not. They will have to wind up MMB, and form a new company. And UB would not agree to wind up.

MB will remain in limbo in the coming days, sadly.

@Deb_Ban First it's not UB it's Diageo. AFAIK, Diageo doesn't want to be involved with MB and hence they stopped paying money. What stops the divorce then? That only top bosses in MB can answer.

Though more than a year old news, this gives some insight on the ownership issue:

    http://www.business-standard.com/article/current-affairs/mohun-bagan-faces-crisis-as-usl-mulls-fund-cut-115021700836_1.html

This is illuminating: " ... According to a top official of the club, USL decided to cut on the Budget because there were multiple irregularities on the part of club officials. "The functioning collapsed because the current leadership did not furnish any details to the Registrar of Companies (ROC) for the past two years; I suspect some foul play," said Atin Ghosh, an executive committee member ..."

@Eastbengalpride, Diageo or whoever, they are the half OWNERS, not mere sponsors. They are not interested alright, but would they agree to let go the ownership? You cannot divorce yourself. They will have to wind up the company first, which is time consuming and complex affair. Diageo apparently does not have much interest to take it up. And unless you close it, you cannot launch 'another' MB.

You all are right, but what surprises me is... even if Diagio or UB whosoever made the contract for the year 2014-15 & for how many years only God knows.......why they did not pay the 4 Cr balance of  2014-15 money ? Was the contract from 2015-16 legally terminated ? If yes... then from which date ?  Then what's the problem of having a new Sponsor ? If not.......then why ? Why that SOB Anjan Mitra....who can't talk, can't stand, can't walk is not clarifying ? Some influentials in the Club say..everything is "ready"....only that SOB is creating problem. Tutu Bose being a good friend of that SOB from a very young age is just not willing to throw him out. Only solution is God to intervene & take that SOB away from earth & make him "Sochib" there. Just as EB has a cancer in Alvito, Mohun Bagan also has in Anjan Mitra...only difference is Alvito the cancer is localised (may be in shoulder only) & Anjan Mitra the Cancer is spread over the entire body.
One thing is certain.....if this issue is not resolved within next one month then Mohun Bagan will not be able to build a team which will be 1/4th. as strong as this year. After all Tutu Bose can't go on giving Crores & Crores every year.
One other thing... the Bengali media whic is following every Coach, Player of Mohun Bagan from the Toilet to the Ground is silent.....either they are scared of Anjan Mitra's muscles power or bought by them.

Tutu Bose, Debasish Dutta & Srijoy all patched up their difference with Balaram Choudhury & all 4 want to merge but again the bloody Sochib is the obstruction. If you go the Airport to catch a flight the Sochib would wait at the Auto Ricksaw Stand & start writing letter demanding why the flight is not taking off from there. He is such a rogue.
One more thing.......do not go by what Atin Ghosh, Arup Biswas, Prasun Bannerji says.... they just want publicity as their main play field is different.

@AKB ;"Sochib" means Secretary !!! Sorry my Bengali is not good but I am guessing hindi word "Sachiv" which means Secretary translates to "Sochib" in Bengali.
  • AKBAKB Kolkata3039 Points
    @mumma219777 correct.
We at the Club never call him Secretary or anything like that .......it is "Sochib" :p
