OK, the rankings have a few flaws but that doesn't mean it's as bad as it's made out to be. The ELO rankings are probably a better system as a whole but the FIFA rankings aren't terrible themselves. If you compare the elo and FIFA rankings of countries, they are pretty similar to each other except for a few exceptions.
I'm not saying we don't have to give a beep about FIFA ranking. As long as it's official ranking, we should go for it no matter what.
But sorry to say this again, it's not just "a few" flaws when you look close into its system. You can find too many holes. Of course though there may be no extreme difference between FIFA and ELO ranking like, #10 on one, # 80 on the other one, but what i'm just trying to say is that too many people don't respect FIFA ranking for its unreliable calculating methods so FIFA seriously needs to reform the system if they want more authority as the official ranker.
Well, FIFA issues the official rankings and as you said, as long as it remains so it has relevance no matter how inaccurate it is 'cause all the seeding for tournaments will be based on it. One interesting thing is that FIFA uses the ELO ratings for women's football but for some reason doesn't use it for the men's game, so I guess there's a reasonable chance that changes into the men's rankings will be made in the future.
India's chief football coach Wim Koevarmans said that India must play on dates designated by world body FIFA for friendlies if they want to go up in international rankings.
That's sort of an urban myth. Plenty of teams play friendlies outside of the designated FIFA dates and their matches still count for the ranking calculation. The matches Cameroon played in the Nehru Cup could have been considered "A" matches if the AIFF would have added a special clause in the contract the Cameroon FA signed. There have been other occasions when a FA fielded a "B" team, but due to the contract the match was considered an international "A" match.
However, would it have made a difference for India's ranking? India are 169th with 105 points in the September ranking.
Assuming FIFA would have included matches up to Sunday, thus adding the two matches against Cameroon (a loss and a PSO win), India would have had 111 points - tied for 168th with Indonesia. Nothing to write home about.

with 114 points in the bag INDIA will move up by three positions to 166 in world rankings but will gain only 1 spot in AFC ranking.....friendly against Singapore should help the cause in november.
