Btw IMG-AIFF must do a lot of planning to maintain this FIFA rankings Probably play friendlies with nations like Puerto Rico etc
Like @munna219777 said higher FIFA rankings would mean higher investors, media attention, better foriegners ....
Till Asian Cup we must manage to be amongst top 15 would help us get a better draw their to 4 of best 3rd place finishes go to knock out stage in Asian Cup's new format
During last world cup qualifiers (for 2014) , when India was beaten comprehensively in round 1 (all remembers Subrata Paul's frolics), India was left staring at gloom without any Asian level qualifiers or matches in the next 4 years. Only AFC Challenge Cup (which wasn't considered Asian qualifiers and was treated parallel to friendlies in terms of points gatherd for win/loss/draw) and subsequent Asia Cup in 2016 (where as expected India lost all matches).
This meant India did not have enough OPPORTUNITIES to increase ranking even if they played friendlies against oppositions whom India would have expected to defeat.
At this point I had posted a comment on AFC website regarding the less opportunities "DEVELOPING" (not intended for pun) teams like India are having because of the way qualifiers are held especially for World Cup and Asia Cup. Also lesser points for more no of countries in Asia meant (all similar to India ), lesser points for the AFC as a whole loosing out in overall points and ranking points achieved by higher ranked countries like Japan/Korea etc, because Asia has the least average points allocated in terms of confederations amongst Europe/NA/SA/Africa.
The subsequent format change has helped India a lot with us getting a lot of "Qualifying matches", first world cup qualifiers and subsequent Asia Cup qualifiers, against oppositions which India could hope to defeat. But we returned disastrous results against oppositions whom we had expected to defeat. Our ranking would have gone to similar what it stands now if we were good that time.
But with Asian qualifiers, we still had hope and this time the wins have helped us immensely and remember the points multiplies 2-3 times whenever we are in such qualifiers.
On such regards, I am thankful to AFC, for this format that they have prepared, which gives a lot of opportunities for a lot of team to go up the ranking if they perform to potential or above potential in qualifiers.
Let's cancel all friendlies and International tournaments, as we've gathered enough points and earn our living by the interest of it for the next half an year.
Oh, I forgot we do not have ISL during this period.
