East Bengal made an official announcement yesterday I guess about the play off, so I think they will play. But with the packed I-League calendar, it is going to be tough for both EB and Bengaluru.
@gaffertape Does AFC pay anything to the clubs for participating? Else, doesnt make too much sense for our clubs to risk an I-League season for a tournament which no one bothers about and we have slim chances of winning.
@EastBengalPride For away match, Travel subsidy of 20 thousand dollars is given plus hotel accomodation, food. For home game, the club keeps the gate money from sale of tickets. Clubs like BFC, East bengal will not be in financial loss by participating in AFC Cup. It helps to get more sponsors also.
As rightly said...AFC give 20K dolllars for games costs...but guven that Clubs have to manage the away teams hotels and their Own flights...it isn't a great NET gain... but smart clubs like BFC could use the AFC games to get more off sponsors. ..and small amounts off extra gate receipts. .. also helps.lure top player's and keep good ones... Long term gains are massive...
I know of some BFC fans who will travel to away games in Asia !!
Given the I-league is shortened. ..i don't see AFC ganes being a major fixture hindrance
