The jersey wont hide the quality or old age of Susak, Deepak, Mehtab, Gurwinder, Mama and Joachim. Also, playing midgets in goal consistently questions football brain of Eelco!
The core of the current team are past their prime, it needs a rebuild like it was done 5-6 years ago. I dont have very high hopes this season to be honest. We are all but out of AFC Cup and a 3rd place finish in I-League would be creditable based on what we have.
I would want to retain only the following for next season:
Subhashish, Arnab, Saumik, Abhishek Das, Khabra, Ruidas, Subodh Kumar, Mohd. Rafique, Dudu and Martins. We have a big bunch of promising youngsters who must be integrated in the first squad along with a good quality foreign central back and a younger medio than backpass Bertos.
We need two good keepers, if one gets called to NT or gets injured/carded, then we wont have to revert to midgets. Anas and Haokip can be poached! EB has broken rank and file of Pune earlier, dont see why not again!
If we get someone like Anas, we dont need a foreign defender. Last season in I-League, Okpara played in only 3 matches and EB had the best defensive record.
