Al Ain City: UAE coach Srecko Katanec has said their clash against India in the first leg of the home and away format of the 2014 World Cup qualifier is a must win encounter.
Speaking to newsmen at the Khalifa Stadium, the venue of the crucial tie, the Slovenian man urged his players to remain cool, focused and have enough respect for their opponents.
Katanec looked confident that recent European tour coupled with a friendly at the home soil will pay off.
"We have young guys who cannot keep up with the pressure. But in all four friendly games recently we found the net. I know my team, who is not with us is not, we've trained and prepared well, we've done everything possible. With them I have 100 per cent confidence. If this is enough, we will see," he said.
But, Katanec noted that there’s nothing easy in football and the unexpectedly stunning results in Copa America is another evidence that nothing could be taken for granted in the game.
Regarding the upcoming fixture against India and their 2-1 friendly win over Qatar, the Slovenian said: "It was a good result for them. Perhaps our game with them will not be as easy as everyone is saying. But this result against Qatar is from a friendly game, nothing more.
"My assistant was at the game to assess the details and we are confident based on our findings. Of course we are not over confident," he confirmed.
Katanec said he’s confident of a good showing against India, but he declined to confirm that Bani Yas forward Zeyab Awana will start the game.
“I don’t know whether he will start the game or not. He’s still in the list and everyone knows that I have punished him after the undesirable way in which he executed the penalty kick against Lebanon.
Regarding the absence of key players like Ismail Matar, Omer Abdul Rahman, Majid Nasser, Subait Khater and Abdulla Mosa, Katanec said he didn’t want to talk about this particular matter.
“I have a new list of players who represent the senior national team and I do trust them to achieve a positive result,” he concluded
