The All India Football Confederation (AIFF) has confirmed the following two International Friendlies in July for the National Team as part of their preparation for the World Cup Qualifier against UAE.
i. Maldives vs India – July 10, 2011 (away).
ii. Qatar vs India – July 17, 2011 (away).
Tathagata Mukherjee, AIFF’s National Team Director feels, the Friendlies will give the boys the right impetus ahead of the UAE match. “The qualifying matches for the 2014 FIFA World Cup against UAE are a challenging proposition for the team. Hence, it is imperative the National Team prepares the right manner with enough number of matches,” he said.
India have been drawn to play UAE in the first leg on July 23rd while the return-leg is scheduled for July 28.
Mukherjee added: “The away games against Qatar and Maldives would be important to prepare for the first-leg against UAE. We are looking forward to the game against Qatar which will be played under similar climatic conditions as that of UAE.”
“The Indian Team will also undergo an acclimatisation camp in the Gulf prior to the first-leg game. AIFF understands it needs to be strategically planned. We will leave no stone unturned to create an upset.”
What kind of crowds can we except in Chennai? Is there anyway we can promote the match there? Do we have anyone from Chennai here?
i m presently in Chennai & will be for sometime. If there is proper advertisement @ the match we can have a decent crowd say 8000-10000 for an India match. The stadium is much much better than the Goa stadium
these qualifiers are just music to my ears as we can see ..we play maldives (much of our level in football), then against qatar (of the level of uae).the first will give our players a chance to get together in the field and the second will be good contest to check our state of game before qualifiers...just cant wait for these matches....hope at least the qualifiers are telecasted.
i hv a gut feeling we cn dfeat em at home..hav faith in armndo colaco..he wud slct d bst players frm i league n put aces in places. Aiff shud gv ful freedm in team selectn
I think AIFF has appointed an Indian coach so that he can obey all their commands now and not go against their wishes..who know's AIFF will be selecting the squad now..Armando may just be a puppet who can only try and change the style of play..

This is one of the main reason why we were slaves for 100 years. <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cry.gif" alt="" title="Crying or Very Sad" /><!-- s -->
I am not one who wud treat Indians as dumb..but this is a fact that having an Indian coach would help AIFF to conduct things in their own way..Armando is a good coach but AIFF must have made sure that he cant go against their wishes..still eagerly looking forward to team India under Armando..he has good experience against west Asian sides..hoping for the best..
