Strengths – Hard to point to any key strengths for the side. A combination of a technically proficient coach in Philippe De Ridder, the presence of the talismanic Bhaichung Bhutia and the unequivocal support of the home crowd are perhaps their key strengths.
Weakness – The squad lacks bite upfront and solidity at the back. They were out of their depth in the Federation Cup, and Anwar Ali can be as much of an asset, as a liability, at the back, due to his inconsistency. The team has got nothing much going for it, and could be set for a very short stint in the I-League, unless Bhaichung Bhutia rolls back the years in attack, though he prefers a slightly withdrawn position when he does play for them.
Disagree. I would like to point to Pailan Arrows 2010-11 season as a reason USFC can do well and Air India every season (exception this season due to more oldies at the club). USFC is a very young but good side. Many of the players they have are former youngsters for the India team and almost all have played for there state team. Most of these youth players were the best players in there state league last year (from what I read when making wiki pages for USFC) and former captains. Also USFC is filled with experience in Bhutia who can help the Tudu who might have needed a new team, he is only 21 and is no where near his potential yet. Also Monotosh Ghosh, the journeyman keeper is young but filled with I-League experience and Tae Yoon from what I have seen is doing very well (from video's on youtube, most notably Shillong Lajong vs. USFC).
Also another comparison I would point to is Pune FC. Unlike Pune FC in there 3rd place 2009-10 season I expect USFC to finish in 9th. They have the same traits. Young talent mixed with experience as well. Only difference is that Pune had Subrata Pal, future India U23 captain Jeje and I-League experience players. USFC dont have that.
Anyway going back to my 9th place prediction lets look at it. ONGC have what? 2-1 loss to East Bengal... they beat East Bengal 1-0 when no one else could in 2010-11 and still finished dead last. There Japanese foreigner who was one of the top scorers in the 2nd Division (Yusa) is there best player... let me ask this... how did the 2011 I-League 2nd Division top scorer (Stanley Cyprian) and 2010 I-League 2nd Division top scorer (Jay Ferrao) do? One is a 4th choice foreigner at Mohun Bagan while the other cant even make the Dempo starting 11. (Yes, I am being a hypocrite right now). Look at the ONGC squad and its nobody. I cant even make them wiki pages because they have no history really.
As for Air India... I will concede that they have a good chance of staying up.

I am also very happy. Two of our(east bengal) league compititors lost points. Every lost point by top teams is a gain for us. Thanx to usfc and lajong.
Match report : Reached the stadium 45 min before the kick off, almost empty lower side stands was a disappointing sight , then came out the mascots of USFC "SNOW LIONS" and entertained a few thousand who had gather to witness the BEST INDIAN FOOTBALL on display. By the time match kicked off hill side gallery was almost full (10000 approx) and northern + southern + Lower stands accounted for another 2000. First half began on a boring note , the gathered crowed felt they did not get their moneys worth. First half was all about Salgaocar trying to find Angel and for USFC it was all about absorbing the pressure and defending.
Second half started brightly and people quickly forgot about the first half dismal show. Within 20 minutes we had four goals to cheer about.
First positive attack by Salgaocar caught USFC defense on the back foot and deflection of one the USFC players made it all to easy for the Spanish/Fillipino striker. But USFC urged by the home fans gave all the got and were rewarded 2 minutes later when RAJU , No 9 and Niraudeen combined brillantly to beat Karanjeet Singh. But the joy was short lived as Salgaocar took the lead a few minutes later ,but home team showed plenty of heart and a brilliant solo effort by LINEKAR MACHADO provided USFC 2nd goal of the match. Home team relentless efforts paid off when they snatched a third 10-15 minutes before the regulation time. From there on it was a long wait for the final whistle...ROONY introduction was appreciated by the crowd who tried to link up with Angel but could not break through USFC's defense.
" Initial thrust has been given , need to carry on the momentum...............

as in this blog by Ayush Srivastava in http://www.goal.com/en-india/news/136/india/2012/10/05/3427808/i-league-2012-13-team-guide-what-are-the-strengths-and
for me also they are the prime contenders to relegate.
