I personally think it's a shit initiative...it could be good in theory. ..but given how the appointments have been made... ie jobless ex players who have all struggled on their coaching careers...and who all have a history with Football Edge agency...i can see what will happen.
Any potential good players will be made to sign with agency...or pay bribe to scout to get the foot in the door at National camps. ..
Players who are more talented BUT with other agents. ..will have to either switch agency or pay up or miss out...
Not wanting to always sound like the cynic...but guys like Abhishek Yadav, Niel Wilson, Bhaichung , Venkatesh etc....all come with a not so clean reputation
For 2002 World Cup Qualifiers when Sukhwinder Singh was coach, Noel Wilson was regular in India Team. Interestingly Stephen Constantine did not select Noel Wilson for 2006 WCQ (held in 2004) as well as Afro Asian games in 2003. Noel batchmates at Tata Football Academy are Deepak Mondal, Mahesh Gawli, James Singh, Naseem Akhtar who played for much longer time then him.
I agree we have better players these days but I feel Doughlas D'Silva was a good footballer, he came to India at the twilight of his career but helped East Bengal to win NFL and Asean Cup, used to cover a lot of grounds in midfield.
