i agree with gaffer, it is naive to think that players who played a few i-league games will rule in international matches against teams like oman, iran etc. most of the time all we do is defend. same reason why dika could not make it big at international level. vineet, i thought, messed up many opportunities to counter (out of position or whatever reason), jackie was no where what he does for RW, so was lyngdoh. i think if they had not played, most fans would have critised SC, because i believe their replacements woudl have played similarly as well. i think the fact remains that we DO NOT PLAY ENOUGH FRIENDLIES to test the players enough and give them some time to settle down.
most of the game, omani defenders played at the half line, except towards the end. the scoreline would have been different if oman had made use of most of their dominance. india definately played well than what i had recently seen, and may have even got a point, but oman were clearly better and deserved to win.
I liked your post, But immediatly felt offended when you wanted Francis back in this Team, Would'nt let him anywhere near this team.
I think this is where i was harping about playing friendlies, Oman played 16 matches last year with only 2 by us. Apart from that is the fact we dont play against stronger opposition ever.. Why? I dont care if we get beaten 5 or 6 nil so long as we learn from them.
Look at the way there was complete understanding in the midfield by oman, Every move was smoothly orchestrated with excellent understanding. Very good off the ball movement to create space despite india having 6 players (4 defenders always at the back with eugene and Sehnaj pinned down in the final 30) shows how to play and still dominate possession.
@DX I agree your point. Even I like Jaki better than Francis. But given these are world cup qualifiers, I would prefer a experience head. Compared to Jaki and Seika, Francis would have done slightly better job in defensive work helping Rino to adjust to the speed of Omani players. I agree the ideal scenario would have been to have tested various players at various position through friendlies which we missed because of reasons already known.
I believe there are lots of potential players who can knock the doors of national team in a year or two. But one position where we lacked quality player is DM. I haven't seen a good player who has good defensive sense and decent passing quality or potential to do so.
Oman outplayed india in the middle, Passing was incisive, We just hoofed it upfront hoping for robin to fluke the ball to chettri and for him to save india again.
With Subrata and Panic striken CB you should be happy that we let only a couple of goals in.
If India had time for one or two practice matches then I think they would have played as a strong team. If India had beaten Oman then the players would have played with confidence and we wouldn't have worried about Iran beating India.
Now for 2022 World Cup Qualifiers I wish AIFF would have given at least a month or two for preparation and a practice match against a tough team. They should start concentrating from now on.
Stephen Constantine did not allow Sehnaj, Eugenson, and our two fullbacks to venture forward. He left the entire attack in the hands of the front 4.
Stephen should add an extra Defensive Midfielder(Thoi Singh, Khabra- Where are they?) and also replace Sehnaj with Cavin Lobo. Eugenson should be allowed to participate in attack.
Of Course, CK Vineeth should be our centre forward and Robin should be out.
Biggest mistake was vineet n jacky...both are strickers how can they do midfeilders job?jacky can perform well in stricker role and keep vineet on bench...he lacks fitness.....and our left n right midfeild were dead,we failed to attack from right and leaft wings....we missed romeo n mandar.....and we need defensive midfeilder to help defenders and midfeilders...we missed thoi sing in defensive midfeild....
