I saw every one of RWFC games this season , Jackie , Seitya ( and Beekay or Kim) hardly ever tracked back , and the defence was often left to defend 1 v 1 at the back ( a concept which Anson Dorrance is a big proponent of)
The profligacy of I-League strikers is what enabled RWFC to get away with such Kamikaze tactics , they let in mor goals than the relegated Dempo , it's just the options on counter allowed them to win games by scoring when others missed.
To expect this against AFC opponents would be suicidal , and we would end up like Afghanistan or Bhutan, on the end of embarrassing scorelines.
Who ever think that losing to Oman 2-1 is a bad result must be joking or have lost touch by seeing too many European football. Oman bossed the midfield and literally played atleast a couple of gears down, The fact that it was just 2 goals is not down due the indian defence but the oman players who wanted to play the perfect final pass before triggering the shot.
Subrata let me assure you was poor yesterday, Got two chances from a penalty to guess it right, Punching balls when you can catch it, His tendency to rush instead of allowing the defender to be in a position to block while you stay big and cover you near post was shocking.
Even his lone save from a direct freekick was because he pushed further than what he was meant to be, So instead of catching it he had to dive behind to flick it away.
We may be able to get away with this defense with Turk or Guam, But will get found out in Oman second leg while i fear a cricket score against Iran.
@gaffertape Yes Vineeth did fail to trap the ball on couple of occasions but over all nobody was so shit that we can point fingers on, except for Robin Singh. We hardly played with any width allowing the Omani players to play narrow and cutting space for Sunil and Robin. And my my my Robin does win the ball but his holding abilities are shit and his flicks out wide was futile.
I liked Dhanpal Ganesh's attitude alot. Dhana was great.
I feel Gourmangis experience would have come handy here.
There are few good things about the team and few bad things. Having the core team from BFC was evident. Even though Robin was not upto the mark, I feel the Sunil, Robin combination actually helped a lot. I would prefer Robin over Jeje because of his height and understanding with sunil. However, he needs to work on offside movement. The next thing is the presence of Vineeth and Mawia on the left. Almost all of the India attack was from that side apart from unsuccessful long balls. However, many pointed scrappy defense for the loss, but they need time to adjust. Jakie almost didn't contribute to defense resulting in overload on rino. Even seita was very similar to Jaki. The last thing would be the movement of the midfield both lyngdoh and shenaj played very deep in my opinion. During, most of our attack, Omani players outnumbered Indian players with a ratio of 2:1. Lyngdoh needs to move ahead a bit especially during attack. Also he was too slow in my opinion. Shenaj needs to take more defensive responsibility to make space for lyngdoh to move forward. I would like to see Dhanpal instead of shenaj in mid-field against Guam. Having him helped Indian midfield to move bit higher. On right wing, I would like to start with Francis against Guam, because of his experience. But, would like to replace him with seita or jaki after a hour mark.
And we are in that position because of the I-League ending late and we are in that position because of IMG-Reliance, and we are in that position because the I-League clubs can't manage properly and we in that position because of @Naujawan
Subrata - Not surprised at his inclusion and also not surprised of his gameplay yesterday, Most of it was poor. No command of his area, Tendency to rush, Sometimes poor positioning, Had two chances to save a penalty but still didnt come close to even saving one. 4/10 SC please bring Gurpreet against Guam
Rino - Switched off completely for the first goal, Looked out of place and position all game, Oman wingers ran rings around him, The fact Jackichand didnt track back didnt help him. All round a poor game for him 3/10
Arnab - Captain and one of the better players among indians in the pitch, Still has the tendency to panic and hoof it upfront. Composure is not there in his game, Even in the second goal when a penalty was conceded, He backed off from a challenge which forced dhana to make a poor tackle one on one to concede the penalty, also was one on one in a corner but failed to hit the target which is criminal considering set pieces were the way forward for india to come to parity. Would still have him and would prefer a CB beside him who is comfortable in the ball like Jhingan or even Gourmangi
5/10 (For being panicky and hoofing it to lose possession than using Eugene/sehnaj to build up play)
Dhana - Looked uncomfortable throughout, Could have been a threat in set pieces but didnt, Poor challenge for the second goal, Should have been a LB or a RB today, The fact Arnab was panicky didnt help him settle. 4/10
Fanai - Surprisingly not much raides come from his end, Maybe its because Rino was poor that attacks flowed from his end more. Hoofed it more than using the flanks better. 5/10
Vineeth - Been the major threat, Clearly played with confidence and was always looking to push forward, Unfortunate for the second goal not to stand. Good start and a major upgrade to francis for sure. Looking forward for him to come up good against Guam. 6/10
Sehnaj - Being a DM it important to break up play or not let oman midfield settle down (Spoiler role famous in Kolkata football) if not useful for building up play to spread balls wide (Which i know such a footballer cannot be seen in indian football for atleast 5-7 years more) Lucky not to be sent off. Poor controlling of the ball ensured Oman dominated the middle 4/10
Eugenson - Surprised at his performance, I expected better after an tremendous season. Instead of a box to box he had to settle down to support sehnaj and then Dhanpal deeper than India would have liked, Looked comfortable on the ball initially but lack of pace meant he lost possession quicker, Setpieces though was decent and some of the best in recent times from a NT player. 4/10. Hoping to see him in a advance role than what we saw yesterday
Jackichand - Looked out of sync with robin and chettri, Clearly the lack of playing together spoilt any cohesion, Pace seemed ok but was dwarved easily by vineeth. Wasnt insicive and didnt help out Rino by backtracking. Not a great start, Hope to see better against Guam - 4/10
Sunil - One man team when it comes to scoring goals, You would need something quality to beat the likes of Al-Habsi and what a strike!! comparable to the best in the world and the fact that he meant to curl it with his weaker foot (Left) if am not wrong shows what a player he is. However to criticize, He could have done better for the penalty shout, Should have played as an out and out stricker when chasing the game instead had to come deeper to collect the ball. Should have tested the oman defence which i say wasnt great and could have let another goal if shoved with pressure 6/10 (10/10 for the wonder striker)
Robin - For me i dont understand the hate on this guy, The only other target man is Jeje so i would still continue to invest in this guy, Poor in controlling the ball but was decent in the air, I love his effort and with his physicality can allow the likes of Chettri & Vineeth to move in. Need more skill to play with his back to the goal and yes needs to be a threat in setpieces, Without this he just becomes a lump upfront. Interested to see his contribution against Guam, Would be tempted to play Jeje if still inconsistent. (Jeje is a better controller and passer of the ball end of) 5/10
SC - If hoofing it and pressing the defence in its final third is the best that india can do then i can fault him to play the way we did, Better team selection than the koverman era, I loved the fact he was aggressive on the pitch and came out of the match convicing that there was supposed to be a point there (The fact that Oman played atleast a gear or two lower and the fact they should have scored atleast 3 goals is a fact) I however didnt like the fact that he didnt want to shake the system, He brought in like to like changes (Dhanpal for sehnaj, Setyasen to Jackichand and Jeje for Robin)
I would have loved with 20 mins to go for him to push eugenson forward or bring in Jeje or Cavin to shake up things but didnt do it. Seemed he wanted to play a game of frustrating the oman players by allowing possession while lumping it forward to Robin for a counterattack which didnt work. Expecting a decent win against Guam, Nothing short of that shall suffice
@deepakc but in I league, BFC ticketing system is pretty good. even during the BFCvMMB game, which had more spectators than the India game, the online queue was not that long. Yesterday it seemed that pre-booking actually gives you disadvantage
