@skjee: None of them can qualify as a marquee player. Do Dong Hyun is joining as a footballer of the Asian quota. The others are certainly not marquee players. I think East Bengal will keep its marquee player slot open till the completion of the ISL, to find out if there is any 'free player' after the ISL. Is there any confirmed news of Chidi joining EB? Don't think that it is a forward-looking move at all.
Dudu shown the door in-spite of a good performance throughout the year The Nigerian forward, who turned out for East Bengal this past term, stated his team made it clear they didn't want to renew his contract, rebuffing contract snag reports...
East Bengal may have had a calamitous end to their I-League campaign, finishing fourth by the skin of their teeth, but it was the off-field plundering that helped them make the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
First it was the manner in which they handled the dismissal of coach Armando Colaco that raised eyebrows amongst fans, and then as the season entered into a quagmire it was the supposed disharmony in the dressing room that made it to the spotlight under coach Eelco Schattorie.
Now, Dudu Omagbeni, one of East Bengal strikers has let it clear that he hadn’t extended his contract with the Red and Gold, simply because the management had informed him of their decision to not retain him, debunking a popular opinion that had been floating around- that of him rejecting East Bengal as they failed to match his expected remuneration.
''Before the season ended, the story was out (that I rejected East Bengal for more money) and I went to confront them and they said it's not true,” revealed a seething Dudu, speaking from his home in Nigeria, to a news24’s online portal.
Calibrating the actual turn of events Dudu explained, “East Bengal never spoke to me on a new contract. They just said they didn't want me for next season and I haven't sat down and spoken with them for money issue.”
The Nigerian forward, who scored nine goals in 17 starts for the Kolkata giants, sounded a tad bit bitter that his time with the forth placed team had to come to an abrupt end, though he elucidated, “I have done my best there in India last season. It’s just that they don’t appreciate it and I will never blame them for that.”
He further hinted his time in the subcontinent could be over, opining, “I don't know yet my next destination. I don't have any option yet, everything is in God's hands.”
Besides turning out for teams in Hungary and Poland, Dudu had earlier plied his trade for Salgoacar in the I-League, pummelling 5 goals in 10 gamkes for the Greens, whilst also plundering three goals in 3 goals in 12 appearances for FC Pune City in the inaugural edition of the Indian Super League (ISL).
Mandar Rao Desai is also linked with EB. Apparently, EB have not yet given up hopes on Romeo Fernandes, though his agent wants him to sign for Mohun Bagan.
